Last night I saw part of a friendly post trial interview with Clint Rickards in which he said something along the lines of "In NZ we're innocent until proven guilty".
I wish the interviewer had commented back "Even if we committed the crime, we're innocent until proven guilty". But they didn't.

Yeah I heard Mikey on the b talking to Russell and like Andy C above, it was a conversation that altered my perspective. I'm a believer in treating people equally, but it wasn't until Mikey pointed out that we have protection for adults, people in prison...etc from being hit, why shouldn't we also have protection for our kids.
We tacitly tell future generations that violence works with every smack.

Feedburner have released a report about their view on RSS usage....might be kinda interesting to media geeks, news junkies and the like.

How often do you find religious instruction (particularly in schools) being anything other than one person talking about their religion?
I'd find it less objectionable if religious instruction was a well balanced review of religious belief systems (PLURAL....including atheism, agnosticism,...etc), but this is hardly stuff for 6 year olds.

As this thread seems to be about the media as much as the drugs, here's a couple of links from the Independent yesterday about prescribing heroin.
One focuses on the crime impact. (This was yesterday's front page story).
Heroin addicts commit on average 432 crimes a year, costing a total of £45,000, according to research.
The other tends to focus on other impacts, such as the surprising (to me) reduction in usage rates.
Am not sure that drawing comparison between European heroin use and little old NZ's party pills, P, pot and gluesniffing is really comparing apples to apples.

Crikey that Nat fulla seems well connected!
Suspect getting the copyright legislation into a good state will be big ask...I'd been pondering copyright changes when considering impacts of regulation on telecommunications last year and found the (UK) Office of Communications site which has some good background information about regulation.

how about adding NSFW for links like that?

Some Aussies want to ban the Australian flag at their BDO....wonder if they could extend the ban to cricket grounds.

What would happen if everyone simply got over the BIG question, be that getting either the same satisfactory reason based answer (as opposed to "unreason") and/or simply deciding that it's insignificant?...and I realise that this unlikely to occur and that frequently people do not decide that religion is insigificant to them, it just is....I think I've just answered my own question. (Ha ha...I just read Ben's comment about getting over it which was posted as I composed my reply.)
