And the thought of driving to Levin via Featherston, Pahiatua, Palmerston North and Shannon is truly something out of a doomsday horror movie.

Interesting post Tom.
Agree with you totally on Russell, rumours are that he’s held responsible of the Clint Newlands incident in Wgtn, and forgiveness is not something that comes easily.
Anyway, what I liked about what you wrote was the emotion. You just don’t see that emotion when people talk about their Shuper 14 team.
Which proves why the NPC must be protected.
@Emma.
I like Amy as a name for it. But I still prefer calling it the DevilBowl. -
@Emma,
And I’m guessing that only having one stand, and it faces south, isn’t that appealing at this time of year?And Robbie’s not around any more...

what I had in mind was those "South Auckland booths" - the mobilising of which swung the election for Labour in 2005, whilst their staying home cost Labour in 2008
Oh come on Tom, everyone knows it was because they were too busy flogging cars in Mt. Albert last year.

You've got over a year until Auckland's Super-Duper council elections, filled by an ongoing fight between the members for Epsom and Helensville and Mt Roskill and Tamaki Makaurau and weekly speculation about mayoral candidates, half of whom are Very Important because they work in the media (here, therefore everywhere), and ... well, you get the picture. Enjoy
True; I was trying to block that out.
BTW, the Mt. Albert by-election is different. It’s of national interest, and it’s got less than a month to run.
-
@Craig, does transmission Gully lead the national news a lot?
@dc. I thought you’d disappeared.

I wonder if about 3 million NZers are going to get pretty tired of the Waterview motorway issue some time soon.

No arguments from me on that one Paul.
I like the organic ones. All Blacks, Kiwis, Silver Ferns, All Whites etc.
But all the ones rammed down our throats over the last 20 years, make me determined to still refer to the team as New Zealand.
Especially the Black Caps.
-
Paul,
I thought the Tall Blacks name was in place before the All Whites? Except it hadn’t really taken off.
My favourite “stupid name” story was hockey. Spending $100k in coming up with a name for the women’s team to compliment the Men’s “Black Sticks”. And they arrived at ... “Black Sticks”.

I’ve had a bit to do with John Allen over the years, and I’ve never heard anyone say a bad word about him. He certainly doesn’t have a reputation for being a right-wing ideologue.
I’d be more concerned about the increasing say that Mark Weldon appears to be having in this set-up.
