Um ... yes. They offered to take them when we entered the warm restaurant from the chilly surrounds of Princes Wharf.
Apparently this is de rigeur for flash-as restaurants.

NZ service never ceases to amaze me.
Euro restaurant, last Saturday night. Bill has been paid. Great meal - good table service. Expensive but ok value. Great tartare. Stood up to leave, approximately 3 metres from the manager. Waited for him to notice and bring us our jackets. Waited some more. Went over to him a politely asked for our jackets. Manager doesn't look up from a a bill he was reconciliating and says curtly, "Yeah yeah - in a minute."
The fact that I have posted this is testament to my amazement.
And Euro had the nerve to then publish that really aggressive advertisement suggesting how to eat a reviewer's balls. Get over yourself.

I love getting stopped when driving drunk people around town. I usually make sure I go past some key booze bus stations. In my experience, any place where you can't see the cops until you're right on them is best. In Auckland - Hopetoun Bridge, outside the entrance to the Okahu Bay Marina, back of the Zoo, and the Arch Hill Motorway underpass are all winners. Motorway on and off ramps are gold too. Especially in the morning for some reason.

Great posts - insightful analysis - good humour - well done.
As a member of the Old Thumpers, my respect for the OTP Chargers has increased immeasurably. Just a shame we can't get a team on the field for you to tear the heart out of our lottery-selected middle order.
Worst moment of the Black Caps' WC for me? McCullum's dismissal in the semi. Cometh the hour, faileth the man.

I know of a PI student who was fairly off the wall and would wag regularly. When the parent was contacted she took the kid around to her uncle's who ... smashed her hand with a piece of wood. The parent was contacted and told that if that ever happened again the police would be informed. Cultural Relativism? A colleague of mine with a philosophy degree informed me that Cultural Relativism can never (or should never) justify a breach of human rights. I agree.
BTW the student is apparently doing much better now that her teachers have proved to her that adults can be trusted and that real non-violent punishments are a logical and necessary result of poor behaviour that affects her own learning (and that of her peers).

Was it just me or did the crowds seem a lot larger than last year? And more aggressive? Whilst the vast majority of people were lovely, I experienced three shoulder drops from cud-chewing late teens. I was pretty damn sober and am experienced at working my way through crowds of teens (a skill every secondary school teacher needs to possess) but those three gentlemen seemed to pick me out for attention. Must have been my Pet Sounds T-shirt. I also heard from a few sources that the Tool crowd (with a few notable exceptions) was downright nasty. Why take 2 herbals when 10 will do? Why drink 10 beers over the course of a day when 20 packed into a few short hours will leave you far more munted? I thought Evermore and Muse were great, as was the space in the East stand (not to mention how easy it was getting to the toliets underneath).
