  • Hard News: Rodney's Folly,

I hate to be a pedant but ... the plural of referendum is referendums.

  • Hard News: The Social Retail,

I once had Murray Crane measure me for a suit. It was a horrible experience.

I also like Kingsland Liquor (by the Gull). Pretty basic stuff but cheap and a good selection. They do sell subourbon RTDs too on the (very) odd occasion I feel like a sugar hit.

  • Hard News: The Social Retail,

Don Johnson's is brilliant - even though the actual Don passed away a couple of years ago RIP. He used to have the best (and sometimes most random) selection of champagnes and sherries. "Cornering a niche market" he used to say...

  • Random Play: Hi-ho hi-ho it's off to…,

I thought the exact same thing about the whole Holmes article. It was a disgraceful thing to say.

Mind you, in a different time, stressed out teachers would tend to refrain from beating their partner on Sunday night and take it out with the cane on Johnny from 4f on Monday morning.

Veitch should have told his ex-partner that if she didn't leave him alone (or get the f*ck out of his house right now) he was going to call the five-oh. Simple.

Any comment on the media silence since Sunday? What a wonderful, caring press we have.

  • Hard News: The Big Day Out, Auckland, 2009,

So very very disappointed about TV - but happy the Ting Tings and Neil were able to bookend a very pleasant BDO. Didn't have (or see) any crowd issues for the TT, we got there 15 minutes early and were pretty close.

And for anyone who thinks they are too old for the BDO - we went with a friend's 70 year old mother who had a wonderful time.

Although I'm not sure she would have enjoyed last year's Rage vibe...

  • Island Life: What it don't get, I can't use.,

I admit to having some reservations about a former currency trader running the country. In fact any former investment banker. But what makes a good former career for a PM?

  • Island Life: Abusage,

I agree it does sound declasse, but the correct pronunciation of "heinous" does sound like "penis" (according to my Concise Oxford Dictionary).

  • Hard News: Better, faster ... prettier,

I think the PA ads are great. I bought 2 kilos (got a little bit carried away) of Eden coffee and it's great. Delivered in a day or two, super fresh, tasty coffee. Chocolate and hazelnut hints or something like that. Probably got that bot wrong. Marketing at its most effective. Keep up the good work.

  • Hard News: Too Good to Be True,

Great article from the Economist re the decline in the use of meth in the US. Tip for educators - talk to teens about the physical side effects of meth use (meth mouth) - appeal to their vanity.
