From the IRB regulations:
At least three (3) months prior to the commencement of an International Tour Unions shall exchange Team kit colours and agree if there is any clash of Team kits. If a clash exists between the proposed Team kits, the CEO of the IRB or his nominee will seek to resolve the matter.
However, in the event of a clash of kits, in the absence of any agreement to the contrary, the Host Union shall be entitled to wear its home kit.
So basically the home team wears what it wants to, and it seems that tradition is more of the driver than anything else.
Note that at 2007 World Cup the All Blacks wore their (awful) grey and black strip twice: once at "home" against France and once "away" against Scotland.
In the past we haven't needed an alternate strip against France because they played in a proper blue. Now Nike have given them navy uniforms and the unions have to agree on what they'll wear. Which is why France played here in white.

HG probably knows what we all look like, so he can be Chief Introductions Officer. A day of test cricket will do him good too.
I missed the bit where I was supposed to be going to a test (what day?)

The home team chooses the colour they play in
OK then; when did that change?
Never, as far as I'm aware they have always done it. It's just now some teams have different strips they want to show off.

Why did the All Blacks (away) change jersies last weekend yet a couple of weekends ago it was England (home) who changed when playing their friends Argentina?
The home team chooses the colour they play in and England had those pretty purple uniforms to wear.
So you're fine with the ABs not having white socks?
Rugby teams shouldn't change their socks unless they absolutely have to (boom boom) and the French wear red socks so there'd be no confusion in the rucks. In fact the only thing the ABs changed were their jerseys.
Did anyone else notice Owen Franks run out with his jersey tucked into his shorts? He should've got a yellow card for that.
Also after the game, Richie did his interview in a black jersey. Who the fuck thought that was a clever idea?
And I prefer the tracksuit tops that France wore down here to the ones they had on the weekend.
yes, that's true

The All Blacks weren't losing
Dude, they lost a bunch of tests this year, including one at home against the French.
I meant up north. When we lose it's easy to complain, complaining when we win takes skill

What I'm trying to say is, you have to appreciate it for what it is - not be disappointed because soccer's not like any other particular sport.
Are you trying to imply that sport is just a form of entertainment and that we shouldn't judge people by what they find entertaining or not? Because that stinks of communism to me! (naturally I kid and agree with you)

Why have men's soccer shorts got longer over the last three decades, while women's netball and tennis skirts have got skimpier?
Shorter shorts are easier to move in. Football uniforms went from long pants to shorts and then lengthened again (though basketball shorts are more extreme).
I put the main reason for the relengthening down to fashion. The boys don't want to run about in short shorts anymore.
And it's the same thing for the skirts, fashion plus comfort and ease of movement.
