Hard News: Game Lorde, in reply to
Stems are the musical parts of the track - those vocal tracks being some of them
There are also ways to isolate and separate parts of a song via hardware and software too, a very inexact method - which is very common in the dance world where getting the "parts" or "stems" isn't easy - given most/many remixes and edits are not officially sanctioned
it was one of the remixes that made me go back and re-listen to Lorde's EP... without which I'd be sitting here going I don't get it at all. Remixes are a gateway to audiences that the original will never capture
-
there are a host of options to give audience and Lorde time and space on stage - projections... dancers (not my cuppa, but common in popland)... or something more interesting - whatever they do I hope it allows for Lorde to remain herself and the music to shine
- as a older type (not the target amrket at all) I also hope I like the album as much as I enjoy the ep and they continue to allow all those remixes to pop up everywhere
-
she seems able to cope with the pressure thus far (to her credit) - her offshore gigs aren't big venues, yet so she has time to learn/hone her on stage craft and presence
She doesn't record with a band so why add one now?
-
I'd hope they don't bother assembling band- keep it simple & true to the recordings / music... added bonus makes for a cheap touring party and allows the audience to focus on the songs/singer

not that odd if you think RIAA and the local version of... and who issues the copyright infringement notices - very rarely / never the label, rather the organisations that work on their behalf

Didn't see it but how were Mt Eden - given the fans were there for Lorde and they are stylistically quite different
Its a very exciting time for local 'pop' music I reckon...

Having been spending some time this week with a youtuber thanks to Going Global (free gig at galatos on Saturday www.goingglobal.co.nz) I learnt some stuff -
Its not just music companies using youtube to monitize / take down / or leave be various content - all the major film studios do too with their movies uplaoded in googles backend for reference, most clips over three minutes come down, anything under depending on the film/studio/rights holder are, like, music claimed and the rights holders wishes applied - its all pretty clever or not depending on your tech is magic view...
Anyone can do this with their content, plus if you are an uploader you get all the analytics and other magic stuff to help you work out the best means to metatag and optimise your content (youtube is just a search engine) - easier to do so via a aggregator like DRM as they have better systems, relationships and deals course you give them a cut of the revenue as the tradeoff
interestingly what youtube is seeing is collaborations between creative types, ie musicians and entertainers to further optimise views and thus money. Musician works with a comedian for example, makes clip and both parties rally their respective audience to gain views and with luck/strategy push the clip further - some would say hope it goes viral at this point... I won't.
I got the Lorde email but it all got too hard - more clicking, account setups and waiting... left to them with the inclination, I'll wait for a time I can just pay to see her, if the US doesn't claim all her time.
I too hope Peter Jeffries doesn't make this a one off, no interest in Palmer but Peter oh my!

the Lorde Vector thing- you should be sent a email on monday, click the link to claim the tickets, I assume on a first in first served basis. Will be interesting to see how many try to profit from the promotion on trademe...
Saying that awesome to see a digital service vying for ears in this manner, ie target users not industry or tech peeps in a very public way.
Miley was marketing, pure and simple - middle aged men fell for it, fist shaking and bottoms wobbly... the "target market" of tweens probably missed the whole thing
