8 councillors at large:
The Maori
The Chinese
The Indian
The Pacifican
The 1-in-5
The European Other with eccentric but undeniably progressive views on housing, transport and employment
The Environmentalist with the annoying habit of holding everything up while we think about the future
and Blair Strang -
I don't think Dr Pita should have said "they've lumped us in with the Indians and other ethnicities." Talk about an own-goal.
I thought his comments that "Maori built this city" and that it was only developed by Euro colonialists on Maori's good faith and largesse were interesting, but probably drawing a rather long bow. Which Maoris? Does that mean the Maori seats should proportionally represent each tribe that held ground on the isthmus and surrounds?
In fact, search my soul - and history - as I might, I find it hard to identify solid arguments for prioritising any ethnicity at this level. Agree that any requirements for local authority to grant representation to Maori undet the treaty and merely at Maori behest, kinda dube.
If JT could accept a sunset clause, what's the dif?
But at the same time, the whole "councillor at large thing"? That's nuts. Presumably, you'd only set that up if you had mates with the clout, cash and profile to pull off the campaign. Ugh. I'm feeling nauseous.

Oh yeah, someone mentioned this other aspect to Earth hour, which was that it can show how much power can be saved if lots of people turn their lights off for an hour.
Hmmm. Considering Keith's calculations, I think this argument is probably scoring an own goal.
Maybe what's of more use is that lots of (National voting, plasma TV watching, 4x4 driving) people in my office are now talking excitedly about Earth hour. At least it raises awareness.
I mean, does anyone actually buy incando bulbs who doesn't need to anymore?
-
In my experience, CFLs certainly give off a wad-load more light than incando ones.
I've also noticed that the older they get, the longer they take to warm up to full light, and also, the lower their light output when they first go on.
I think there's more mercury in my fillings - and definitely in my cell phone - than in all the CFLs in my hose put together. Or something like that.
-
Ahh, agree with Stewart.
Fucked to hell and back if this shiteating fucknut is going to replace the one dimmer in his house to accommodate the only two incandescent bulbs which it drives. Besides, doesn't dimming the lights reduce the amperage of the electricity we're consuming? (admittedly, physics ain't my strong suit).
I've got enough on my plate getting the insulation up to scratch (thanks EECA & Right House!).
Of course, CFLs are used wherever possible. But removing the only type of bulb which a certain type of system can use seems draconian.
Also, local bodies have a long way to go to make CFL recycling (which contain mercury) more available to jo blow. Compared to glass, plastic and paper, you really have to work hard to know how to ditch the the things.

RB: I remember you interviewing someone on the Wire, some kind of heatlh researcher. Might have been something to do with Meningitis immunisation during that whole flare up.
She made a side comment about some impact on autism, and you corrected her, very curtly, very assertively, and - I guess - very knowledgably.
You'd already posted a lot about your family's experience with autism, and you clearly knew your shit.
I recall this not as incident of over exposing your personal life (ooer), but rather, making use of your own experience in something to become an active participant and to allow that to inflect the interview in a way that was both highly subjective and highly informative.
That is, it's all good.

Hi Supplejack
How does collaboration influence revenue?
How do your clients respond to agency collaborations?

I mean, if I bought a house right now, I'd set the price, right?

If it wasn't Bill English, two years ago, berating the L gvt for creating an unfair, tax-payer funded competitor in the banking market place, who was it?
And now he wants to throw away more tax dollars so that it's own customers like Mark here can give it less money.
I mean, really, what gives any vendor the right to actually charge any actual fee for their goods or service. Who do the banks think they are, presuming to actually collect the fee they charge. That's what get's me. This whole price-of-stuff thing. Surely, as the customer, I set the price. No?
