the cheapest option available is still $2.2 billion. The same price as a railway link from Avondale to Manukau City via Onehunga and the Airport.
Ummm, would that be an underground rail link or a surface rail link? If the former, might it not combine with a car tunnel? If the latter, might that not require the eradication of people's houses?

Meanwhile, in the midst of recession, Sarkozy announces his plan to convert Paris into an eco-city of the future, founded on the principles of "truth, beauty and grandeur."
Translation: $35 bn on rail improvements over 12 years.

As opposed to the usual campaign slogan of "who the fuck are you again?"
ROFLNUI.
RB: fair cop. No hostility intended. Just squeezing in PA between paid work = unedited posts. Um, thanks for the gender correction.
And also, yeah, a bit more heated than usual. Your piece giving some perspective to the 3 News was appreciated.
But hey, it seems to be catching. Only last week that guy from a private school got abused in here so fast he ran straight out again(pity, that). My god, actual squabbles, here in the affable surrounds of PA.
I'd suggest that whatever risks the Greens face going all out for Albert, they're miniscule, and especially miniscule compared to the risks of NOT going all out.

Norman isn't standing to win, but to gain a national profile
I agree Russell that infights are out, so I'll resist making the same patronising remarks about Labour MPs' motivations. Power hungry? Reputation thirsty? Pullleeease.
Actually, it seemed the opposite to me. The Greens were enthusiastic about a serious campaign on this seat long before any candidate discussions were held.
Good on Lynn Prentice for living there and being up with the issues. Too bad she's not in the party that really understands the solutions.
Fact still remains: nothing would suit Labour voters better than a Green victory.

he won't win, and if he does manage to cannibalise the vote to the extent that it helps National win Mt Albert and further extend its majority, there will be unease within his own party
Unease? Ha! That would be consistent with the Green response to the last 9 years of government.
One more National MP makes no difference, and Russel is much loved. Whichever way you look at it, the Greens just can't lose this election.
Green supporters are far more concerned for their party to act like a grown up and be independent. If that means giving some back to a Labour party that has consistently tried to marginalise them, perhaps Labour shold have thought about that a few years ago.
Russel N presents Labour supporters with a once in a lifetime opportunity to up their game. Any government is improved with increased environmental influence.

So, where does the clean electricity come from? Until Powershop, Meridian could claim this all to themselves. But since they own Powershop, they can't claim to be only selling Green electricity.
Agh, so confusing. Proves only one thing: the electricity industry is a farkn shambles. Consumers are beweildered, prices are meteoric and the environment is getting prepped for a visit to Dr Kevorkian. If the government doesn't wade in to clean it up, nobody else is gonna.
Which right now means one thing: If you live in Mt Albert, vote for that guy Russel (not that Russell, but Russel).

Actually, isn't this Geographic Board - or whoever they are - doing well? They've SO come out of the closet, what with W__H__anganui and the NI/SI thing. Yeah! Geopolitics is so back!

@Emma regarding Sister Wendy:
you're not old until you start using words like 'nowadays'.
What about "And just look at the way he's painted her lovely pubic hair, so lovely and fluffy", keen as hell through a toothy grin. Would that be old? Or something else.

You might be able to think of a product that enjoyed such utter dominance this far into a market, but I'm stumped.
Someone told me about their dad in the late 70s who attended a meeting of TV folks, advertisers, manufuacturers, etc., to address the problem that anyone who was ever going to buy a TV had already done so.
That must have been shortly before an ad campaign I recall with Selwyn Toogood promoting the idea of owning a second, smaller TV in those heady days of two channels (count 'em! Two!).
But that was an industry-wide thing. Nothing like the single brand dominance of ipod. Kinda spooky.
92 percent of students said they currently own a digital media player ... Of these students ... 86 percent reported owning an Apple-branded iPod
86% share of 92% of a (student) population. Aspirational over-reporting on the part of the students, maybe? And does that figure include apple phones?
