trains haven't operated on the weekends for a long time due to the electrification work, which whilst necessary is very painful for those wishing to attend the many and varied events or just come into the city in the weekend
with the rise in interest in cycling whomever makes/sells those car bike racks in NZ is onto a winner, shame that really

just stumbled across this from the weekend

Hard News: Friday Music: Starting Early, in reply to
Ahem
Wasn't a promotional CD - limited edition (500) made for their tour of the time on Archlife the Dunedin label which was associated with Arc Cafe down there.
Can't remember if it was formally released via the labels distributor to retail or just sold on tour - I do know I've a copy, huzzah! (sorry)

Lorde as I've already siad in the other thread was well special - for me it was the children and their parents, such a pleasure to witness young fans attending what I expect was their first concert... Thanks to the promoters, the council et al as well as Lorde and her management team for making it so.
Went to the Adults and the APO last night and they were incredible - I saw a tweet by Jackson, hopefully he got some photos to share here? (prob not given the security). Two renditions of nothing to lose with Ladi6 on the mic... wow. Possibly a first to see everyone at this sort of concert standing and jiggling along for the encore and the orchestra players looking at this and grinning like loons.
For fans of beats, follow the people that posted that BBC 6 mix - they upload a lot of the shows and they are all worthy of listening to, wonderful music and clever radio programming to boot
Its going to be a great year for music, I feel, cheers for the links

Capture: Laneway 2014 + Lorde, in reply to
Not that strange - the BDO crowd are primarily motivated by some of the acts on the bill (music), many on Monday seemed to be there to "be there" and acted accordingly. Plus more room to breathe/stand/wander between and around all the stages (which had screens)
-
Was one of the worst festival experiences I've experienced - thank you to the dude bros and the dude girls for your puerile, entitled and drunken selves. No matter where we tried to stand there they were play fighting, obsessing over their phones , backward caps, constantly pushing and generally being dicks. Left way earlier than we'd planned as we'd just had enough of not being able to see the silo stage (where most of whom we wanted to see played) and the mainstages just being uncomfortable with the constant pushing past and dickishness. This was quite a contrast from BDO and laneways prior - felt sorry for those trying to actually enjoy the bands they'd gone to see
Logistically the setup desperately needed screens so the crowd could see (and a much reduced capacity) and the stupid food coupon tagged onto the booze tickets whilst a nice thought and touch was just wrong... given the awesome food options who would want a over priced coke, donut or chips?
I'd go on but thankfully Lorde last night made up for the disappointment of Monday - she was fab, the crowd was a pleasure to be amongst and so so awesome to see all those children with their parents.
I believe its the last year for laneway in the current location - a shame as it is a mint spot and whilst I didn't enjoy this year the previous two held there were simply fantastic. I hope they can find another suitable spot that suits the festival and can handle the numbers needed to make these things viable and enjoyable for all

totally good for the punters and the change won't hurt us spoilt ones either. Them that sit all day in such areas waste space being put near the music

After a very enjoyable BDO I'm really looking forward to Laneway(s)... bit gutted (selfishly so) the Friends and Family has moved - was so the mint spot before the late comers arrived last year for a beer enjoying Street Chant et al on the big stage - for them going there's a raised bit of grass that allows good sight and hearing of the stage... get closer if you want the real deal though

We had VIP tix and knew in advance there was no view of anything to be had by such - was for timeout, access to loos and food/drink without the expected queues. Was amused by those happily staying in there all day (by the looks)... an experience gained and music not bothered with
BDO was real good I thought - most of the problems with venue/infrastructure can be fixed I reckon, which bodes well for the future
My only real complaint is the obsession with fencing - the main stages were an obstacle course which severely limited the ability to get close (ie able to properly hear) to a band one wanted to (having bag and a 13 yr old in tow meant no inner d ring or bar action) - the other stages were wonderful in the lack of fencing. NB - I appreciate crowd control issues
Though I would flip the lakeside setup so one could actually see (be beside) the actual lake (they can add many millions of fences between crowd and water to keep the fence lobby group happy)
All up a wonderful return and reboot

The little respect I had for our Mayor has gone... I expect these sort of sense of entitlement and bullshit excuse makings from a tory not someone of/from the left
Worst part of the whole thing is he's still the best candidate (imo) who ran for mayor and that in itself suggests there is something seriously adrift with our local politics and politicians - Auckland sometimes seems so lost
