I'm quite angry about this news story and the inference being made - its a book, ownership of doesn't denote anything about the owner other than possession. Let us judge the man by his character and actions not his things
This is a book that you can borrow from your local library or buy from a number of local book retailers- sure not signed but isn't it the contents that offend?

Have you gone for Premium as those pop up ads are pretty annoying on the Free package my kids use?
Started on a premium and eventually dropped it cause I wasn't using the service enough - initial honeymoon period wore off... so used the free ad version for a while and now back on premium via my telecom plan, so no dollars down from me an extra bonus as the payout to artists rises (combined total subscribers)
Re Distribution (depending on deal generally itunes makes way more than physical distributors on sales from my experience/past knowledge and has no stock control, storage, collecting monies, returns from retail to deal with (a long topic in itself - hate you retail!) etc etc. itunes really struck a very good bargain from a then panicked music industry...
Artist returns - totally dependent on deals and business competence of all parties, there is no rule of thumb

why is that? - its another wonderful tool for the music nerd and casual listener
For me its a fantastic means to listen to stuff I have no interest or intention of purchasing (a lot from back when I sooooo wanted to purchase/own but the records simply weren't available in small town NZ) ... and mucking around on it can be most fun and enlightening - added bonus the artist I wouldn't give a cent to via purchase might just get a cent thanks to me anyways, thats pretty cool

Lobbying or advocacy is no justification for stopping funding - advocacy work, (I prefer this term to lobby), is often part of govt funded bodies core work - without which in a case like PGF we remain just dealing with the mess at the bottom of the cliff not the causes...
Tau Henare's twitter outburst on biting the hand that feeds is simply deluded. And lets not overlook Tau's "tard" comment to Lew which as pointed out by Cate Owen comes on World Down Syndrome Day - he really is a classy chap.
One can only hope as the story unfolds the reality isn't what many of us are thinking.... I don't like the odds though

all this talk of sound stuff is why the public tune out of giving a crap about audio quality.... they just wanna hear the music, cue off the shelf consumer friendly (i anyone) devices that have taken off and them that haven't
me I love music.... and I've yet to find a audiophile who can honestly say the same, they are too obsessed with sound quality over what moves them musically

I'm with the rabid pack on the Pono - meh. If it wasn't for Young fronting this I doubt it would have gained any column inches nor kickstarter donations - and should I mention the name... double meh
Yes some people want higher quality music files and some of those will pay for a music only player and link to a store that won't have the catalogue of all the other stores - ie will have a tiny catalogue in comparison... and thus a tiny market
I don't think ya average music consumer/listener cares about the things Neil does... and the vast majority don't know who he is either... now if Dr Dre was behind it maybe people would be happy to shell out a big bunch of money on a music only player... and then the playback system and/or headphones that will actually allow the benefits to be heard (cue audiophile jokes)
Saying all that audio quality will I believe improve as the distribution means becomes way faster (data caps too) for it to be the norm globally - of course the major labels will have to be in the zone for any of this to take off, iTunes (et al) are but the storefront, the content owners in this instance should be pushing for their wares to be sold at the highest quality possible - a chance for them to be proactive perhaps
I am excited to see after the killing off of the beloved Technics 1200 that pioneer are bring decks back http://blog.djcity.com/2014/03/pioneer-teases-new-turntable.html given the rise and rise of vinyl sales (a niche market still)
