  • Cracker: Gimme Shelter,

I think bar access is the least of the benefits of a pass to the Immortals Lounge, which is where journalists, suppliers, friends blaggers, etc, get put. (VIP would be overstating the case, really.) It’s more respite from the noise and easier access to toilets.

The Immortals Bar was a real lifesaver. I loved the clean bogs and my kid got a huge buzz at standing 6 feet away from Nick Dwyer. Too shy to say hi but txting his mates like mad. Sadly, as predicted it went haywire there in the last 3 hours and we couldn't get in. That plus the rain plus the fact Tom had seen the main people he wanted to (apart from MIA) meant we were happy to hit the road early.

I'll put in a kind word for Mt Eden Dubstep in the Boiler Room. Cheesy they may be, but they were the main thing Tom was there for and when they kicked off with their single and the large (very young) crowd started singing along it was quite the BDO moment. I looked over at my boy and he just had the biggest grin all over his face.

    Big Day Out, job done.

Hot sun, our raspberry plants had gone well mad so we had breakfasts and deserts sorted for about 6 weeks. Did a bit of kayaking on the edge of the Abel Tasman, and a quick beer tour around some of the craft breweries we have nearby. Not bad all in all.

Now, more importantly, we have 10 days coming up in Auckland and the Far North before we head to the Big Day Out. We are Auckland n0obs so any hints or tips for nice things to do there from the PAS faithful would be much appreciated. One member of the whanau is looking for anything of a scifi, anime, manga or geek/tech stylee. Another is more into your mid century modern, scando design type hit. Me, I'll just be happy with a decent boozer or two :)

Heh, I didn't mind Ladi6's first album and thought "Walk Right Up" was an excellent tune (did anyone see Beirut rapper Malikah's interpretation of it on 'Making Tracks' this week? Tot's awesome). So I'm looking forward to grabbing the new album at some point.

Ladi6 is also a very friendly Twitterer if you want to say hi (@Ladi6).

Nice post Hadyn. I didn't watch the game but you've pretty much summed up life as a sports fan here. Anxious, angry, illogical, superstitious, pathetic and utterly brilliant.

    Cheers.

  • Hard News: The Beautiful Pants,

I fear that tailoring, like private whisky bottlings, has now become an occasional luxury without which I cannot do. It's a maturity thing.

I get suits tailored in here in Nelson and most of my business shirts tailored by Simon and the lovely folk at Rixon Groove in Wellington. I then dress like a tramp on weekends. Call it Karmic levelling.
