Your post was a catalyst
Well I don’t have a list o’ cats, but how about a line?
The tabby in particular loved this fire. He would heat up until he was too hot and then totter queasily into the kitchen to lie full stretch on the cool floor. Then he’d go back and do it again.
One time he singed his tail; I opened the door of the fire to put another log on and he rushed forward to bask in the hot blast, and touched his tail on the inside of the door. There was a big puff of smoke and a nasty smell, but he didn't seem to notice until later when I saw him washing his tail and looking puzzled.

A hoarse race?
Today in a fast-food establishment I was offered Martyr’s Horse with my chips. I declined.

Good lord! To be fair, that was not a spelling mistake. It was typographical harassment. ;-)
Edit: It could be argued that the more colourful original headline is more accurate.

It's only words...
Not everybody finds spelling easy. But how many seconds does it take to run a spell check? (FWIW I wish sub-editors would routinely run their headlines through one)

Another takeoff. Gull playing chicken with the waves, Ocean View beach, Dunedin.
When I arrived in Dn the weather was appalling. But I had 2.5 days of stunningly hot weather, too. This was one of the lovely days, a beautiful evening on the beach. The waves were big and foamy, breaking more with a muffled thud than a crash. Hardly anyone about except the seagulls and oystercatchers. Bliss.

Isabel, I'm sorry. Last time I had to have a cat-friend put down, I felt like I'd been kicked in the guts, for weeks afterwards. It's not just the loss, but also the awful responsibility of deciding when they're suffering too much. And then the counting down to the end. Absolutely hideous.
But yes, it's like any other attachment. The hurt is the price we pay for all the wonderful times we've had together.

What earthquake-snobs we've become ;-)

the Tree is alive and well in the North Island
Last time I was in Hastings I was astonished at the number of silk trees. Every second front yard seemed to have one. Maybe obeying a bylaw? :-)

Shell be right, Jackson!
