Hard News: Limping Onwards, in reply to
a lot of flaxroots support has gone for the Maori Party. I’ve noted earlier that there will be a couple of surprises coming out of the South…
with National heading to a near-60-seat haul, the Maori Party could get down to as few as 5 seats (1 seat + 4 list, i.e. ACT this time round), and the Nats would still be safe.
going to be a long 3 years Lefty-peoples.

I think Che’s got the smart money.
appreciated. have been a watermelon voter for almost 20 years, and can’t see that changing.
but can’t help seeing it as a little futile this time round.

at least Labour here isn’t seriously facing the downright sadistic beating voters handed to the New South Wales ALP over the weekend.
yet. there are many months till the General Election.
my 2c (again), is a National/Maori coalition, with Labour no-where near in the running.
Nats might even break 60 seats for the first time.

Hard News: What Now?, in reply to
a welfare system exists so that the well-to-do don’t have to live behind a razor wire comfort blanket, or have the SAS drive their kids to school.
you're assuming that's not what codders-type people want.
the alternate view is that the welfare state means that 'these types of people' have enough money to get within 5 km of people like herself.

but you can’t shine a shit (as they say here).
you might like to look for those statues of the Conservation Minister someone here has been making.
otherwise, maybe that's the problem with all these politics. they're trying to make their job interesting, when what they should be doing is just getting the hell on with integrating the economy/workforce/education...

the major goals in education, employment, IR should line up for instance.
problem: you ever see “George and Mildred”? show from the 70s?
those goals are george-unsexy.
it seems to be the outcome every time anyone stands up to talk about aspirational goals in any way relating to these areas? almost instant eye-glaze compared to sexy sexy tax cuts or worrisome worrisome public debt.
how to fix it? i do not know.

I understand there is a lot of policy work under way.
i struggle with that. surely working out the details of public policy is the job of public service.
parties should devise *strategy*.
regards that report you link to, i think Cullen might have been all over it. he was the last elected official to address aging.

Was a techtonic weapon used?
saw that question in relation to the Indonesian quake in 2004.
apparently the nukula device required would have to be as big as an aircraft carrier.
not sure even the soviets made them that big.

I think that’s a productive way of engaging. I’d be quite happy if Labour started pushing for this stuff.
considering they're on a hiding to nothing at the next election, *now* is the time to air this stuff.
i don't know what their internal polling is telling them, but the Che's Anecdotameter says they're going to screw the pooch.
let's not forget that the Anecdotameter called a Nat-Maori-ACT coalition on the night of the last election. #notbragging #istrue.

Hard News: Really good, actually, in reply to
But two of anybody’s hands, right?
well, that did occur to me. but, having someone to help might just have made the TV redundant anyhow!
