never wore shoulder pads
O I did! I have broad shoulders, but they were ever so much broader with 80s shoulder-prostheses!!
to be pedantic The Forsyth Barr wouldn’t have been there then either, even if it was, it would have been the R Jones Investments building
Hehe I was thinking that, too. ;-)

I was switched on this by Graham Reid
It's thanks to Graham Reid and his Elsewhere that I heard about Spectacle! And thanks to RB that I encountered First Aid Kit. Thanks for that, yous are awesome.

And on the subject of country-ish music, I love this single from First Aid Kit's The Lion's Roar. It's my pick of the album.

Elvis Costello and Lucinda Williams covering the Rolling Stones’ ‘Wild Horses’
Nice one! I’ve very much enjoyed Costello’s show Spectacle on DVD. I don’t always enjoy his covers, but sometimes he’s magic, and he brings out some fantastic performances from his guests. I think they respond to a peer in a way they wouldn’t to a ordinary host.

i have become very attached to the Canterbury Plains and feel a strong connection to this place.
There will be pretty places once again to meet family and friends in the not too distant future.I sure hope so! I have yet to mentally assimilate all the losses and changes in the city; when I think of the CBD, it's the intact version I see in my mind. I know intellectually it isn't there anymore, but the fragile afterimage persists.

I liked the Stewart fountain too before it was buggered by the modernisers
+1
The kids’ tiles were a nice idea, but the overall design and layout was nasty. History here. The old design was undemanding and restful, I thought.
Fountains are great, if they’re done right. I used to feel sorry for the one on Riccarton Rd, which typically either wasn’t working or had been turned bubbly by waggish students.

This one is still standing.
I’ve always hated that War Memorial! I remember looking at the sad photos of the Cathedral post-Feb-22 and thinking, “Dammit, that bloody thing’s still standing!”
I’m fond of the Bowker Fountain though (thanks for the ID, Joe). I remember my Dad taking me there when I was aged 3 or 4 at night-time as a special treat. It was pretty amazing :-)
Thanks for all the nostalgic shots, Gudrun.

Aotea steps.
I love how jaggy and pixellated the figures look.

Did you venture into the hustle of petals and sculptures?
No, I thought it probably wasn't my thing. I might have been wrong. Were there hordes of people?
