Does Eurovision get a special circle of hell?
And what do you make of such mind-bendingly bizarre crossovers as this:

the sub-genre we know as “Christian rock”, and I honestly can’t say why almost none of it seems to be any good.
The devil has all the good tunes? ;-)
I think the problem with “Christian rock” is that it’s afraid to do anything that might be the slightest bit interesting or challenging in case it alienates some Christians. So it’s neutered, watered-down, anaemic…..
I wish I could post Nick Cave’s Introduction to Mark as a sort of antidote, but it seems not to be on YouTube.

Promise you don't bring Tom to our coffee-meet
S'alright; I doubt he drinks...coffee. ;-)

I can understand that people don’t like Tom Waits, some of his stuff I can’t stand, either. But he makes up for it with the amazingly brilliant songs, like this one:
I don’t know of anyone else who makes music like this.
Edit: I love a lot of the tracks on Frank’s Wild Years , too, although I’m sure it’s a minority taste:
What a crazy genius....

Wow, this thread kind of exploded when I wasn't looking. Someone early on was hating on Bohemian Rhapsody. Have y'all seen this? As renditions go, it's very passionate! Love it or hate it, most of us know it backwards....

Has Athfield gone? So who's meant to be in charge, then??
Lyn Williams makes some fair points about the sacking of ECan and the sweeping antidemocratic powers of CERA and Brownlee, and about the seeming cronyism between central government and Parker and business interests, but he lost me when he connects these things with red-zoning.

Ian Athfield was my Mum and Dad’s best man at their wedding in Christchurch. He is from Christchurch.
Jus’ sayin’ {;)I stand corrected. And I'm not saying he's a bad person, or a bad architect, just that he's not a town planner, and he's made very aggressive public statements about both eliminating the one-way system and reducing public transport. This makes me very angry. It's not his business.

bureaucratic amateurs
eg. Ian Athfield? Who is an architect , neither a town planner nor a traffic engineer!!! And not from Chch as far as I'm aware. I know the one-way system confuses people who aren't familiar with it, just like the Auckland motorways do, but for locals, it's how we get around.

Yes, one-way systems are great at feeding traffic around an area. Anyone who drives to the city has to get in and out without sitting indefinitely in traffic. Otherwise they will go to a suburban mall instead.
