Lockwood Smith Tax and Social Welfare is about 3/4 down his valedectory speech starting @:
Not many would know that I put 7 years’ work into a project to redevelop New Zealand’s income tax, benefit, and tax credit systems. The work started on trying to find a way round the massive churning involved in employers deducting PAYE, only for the Government to pay it all back to some employees in family tax credits....... ""At the last minute it was pulled, for fear it might be seen as official National Party policy, and it was not."
Wonder why currently the teams of National naysayers are labelling it as "Labour Policy?" -
A commenter Save NZ pointed me to a Canadian town Dauphin Manitoba where an experiment in a sort of GMI was trialled in the 70s. Until the oil shock/deflation etc killed it. The data saved is only now being uncovered by a researcher Evelyn Forget.

Unemployment has been a bullshit statistic for so long just because it is such a political hot potato,...
It has been said that for years industry likes unemployment as it gives them power over prospective employees. That is interesting because UBI would mean that that prospective employee would no longer vulnerable to the boss. Mmmmm?

As an 8 year old I spotted the big kids playing with the old-fashioned thick skinned soccer ball. The dew was heavy on the ball. The high ball came my way so I had my first go at heading. Crunch. Down I went, dazed and puzzled by it all. At least now days, the balls are light and less damaging than 60 years ago.
Watched the disturbing program last night. Strange reaction recently to stopping contact/tackle rugby for school kids? -
Key has backed down from having taxpayers pay for his folly. Farrar Polling quickly?
And how come the taxpayer is however payeing for the preparation of his defence?
Personal vendettas should come out of Key's pocket. -
Actually I cannot get the Survey to work on my Mac/Firefox so still in the dark.

Actually Ritchie McCaw's position may be quite right. Change the flag to something not Australian. But the fern flag is not it. Vote No but please in a year or two have another go at some flag design that is symbolic, distinctive and lovable.

Judith-Innocence (Like insisting to your kids that Father Christmas is real even when they are teens.)

I enjoy Detective novels. But what makes it more intriguing is those that are set in so many countries that the background becomes as much fun as the plot. Swedish, Italian, French, Greek, etc. A really good book sometimes can have the solution to the crime being relatively less important than the setting.

Jolly good but why not include some country's PM? Must be one somewhere.
Not keen on horror but found myself drawn in partly because of Jim's total commitment to his subject. Refreshing after some film buffs flat presentations.
