Geoff Lealand, I'd appreciate a photocopy please. Will pay p&p-
Just bung me an email off-line to lealand@waikato.ac.nz
No need for payment--universities should still be about the free dissemination of information! -
I am willing to send a copy (old-timey photocopy) to anyone who would like the full Nowra article (just bung me an email). It looks like he is setting himself up as the Australian equivalent of Alan Duff (right wing bombast, under the protection of 'literature')--his last piece on the perceived failings of the Australian film industry wasn't very convincing.

Cue Lawn Green (Paw)
A deliberate pun, or do you mean Lorne? Reminds me that our lawn has remained green this summer, rather than dying off as it usually does in February/March.

Despite the temptation I won't say anything rude about reggae but, in respect of next week's Media 7, have you seen the diatribe by Louise Nowra against Germaine Greer in the Aussie journal The Monthly (the current issue)?

It's interesting that the big city lights used to burn whale oil
..and small torches were run on herrings or sprats?

stand-by topic of discussion in a taxi. Stops me being grievously but silently offended when some driver who obviously spends all day flicking between Laws and Leighton starts telling me what's wrong with New Zealand these days...
I reckon there should be some way of demanding a discount for the dubious pleasure of having to listen to the retarded views of some taxi-drivers---or those who tune their radios to Radio Rhema. There must be some effective but courteous way of saying "I'm hiring you to provide transport, not to subject me to your warped view of the world'

if you don't listen to their alternative points of view it means you don't believe in an open society and the free pursuit of knowledge, but then quickly it becomes apparent that they are predicated on the absolute denial of every other possible explanation or interpretation
Pretty much describes the doctrine of libertarianism, too?
I would have though all this curry talk would have 'spiced' things up for you.
Freewheeling Friday seems to have come early this week. But this is no way to curry favour :-)

Media 7 was top-notch last night but I am still not warming to The Ad Show which followed. They need perspectives from outside the advertising industry, and less self-congratulation.
One weekend I don't need to angst about the Chiefs. It is their turn for a cup of tea and a lie-down.
Going to the The Old Crow Medicine Show tonight. I hope they are good. -
hordes of students scrambling at my door all day.
Well for Christ's sake man. Let them out!
Well, I have plastered over the claw marks and hosed down the floor. Only two left in our foyer, currently watching a re-screening of a rather bonkers Japanese movie Fine,Totally Fine (2009).
Has anyone else seen Taika Waititi's Boy yet? I was rather disappointed with it but I would be interested in other responses as I am currently attempting to set up an interview with him, for an Aust mag.
