Unless they pull a King Kong, and release first of all a DVD with special features only, without the actual film.

Secondly NZ is a country of 4 million people - the idea of a self sustaining domestic industry is mathematically impossible; the local audience just isn't big enough to pay for the millions of dollars that are put at risk every time a film is made.
There was a time when New Zealand made an average of a feature film per decade. Not that long ago. (If you count actual New Zealand films, like Boy, and not just foreign productions shot in New Zealand like, say, The Seekers.)

To me, it will always be The Shire.
Me too. Who can forget her? Adriaaaaan!

Just as Comedy Central cancelled the two shows, Telstraclear doubled the traffic allowance on my cable connection to 20Gb. So timely.

Tangentally, I know one of the women who did actually glue down Gandalf's beard, or close enough for jazz. Were the long days and rough conditions a trial? Sure. Would she do it again? Absolutely.
I see this argument come up time and time again. Surely the point of unions is to raise working conditions and wages above the absolute minimum that one would work for? I'd do my job for less money and worse conditions, especially if I was cornered into a take it or leave it situation... but surely we can aspire to improve on those bare minimums? Otherwise the "will work for free" placard will become something to aspire to.
(I can see how this particular union action was misdirected and why it was ultimately unsuccessful, I'm talking about the principle.)

(mind you we marched for the right of parents to belt their children with jug cords and wooden planks, and the the right of wealthy interests to effectively buy elections, what the hell?)
You manufacture and sell long bows, then? I wish you well.

Man, that Cocteau drawing is magnificent.

Straya is still two syllables I believe.

No shit. I'd take advice from Conor on how to make pizza right about now.

Giovanni Tiso - I have to say what utter bollocks that it was an anti union rally - at the Auckland rally the CTU and the NZEA - MEAA (NZ) incorporated were not mentioned.
To reiterate: it's got nothing to do with the substance of the debate, it's just how it will be spun. Why else would young nats and farrar want to see a lot of people at those marches? And it's not a hideously long bow either: the marches are a response to a bungled union action, on Labour Day, and in solidarity with an employer. It doesn't take a lot of spin. And I say that with the utmost sympathy for the cause of the people who are justly afraid for their jobs. I wouldn't dream to call them traitors.
Or are you arguing the left needs to stay quiet now just as the noise ramps up from opponents? I want to see some intelligent coordinated communications and other actions, not the disorganised amateur hour we've seen over this.
Yes, I'm arguing that the left needs to stay silent. Or more precisely, talk about something else. There's no way to spin this thing.
