Something that seldom seems to be noted is that McCully and Key are both Auckland MPs and yet seem to have no loyalty to their electorates, let alone to the city as a whole. Baffles me.

Having now read the book (bought from Parsons Art Bookstore by Auckland Art Gallery) the main thing I take away is Nicky's assertion that the defence area is a law unto itself, which includes the civilian aspects of the 'industry.' With an election looming it behoves us all to think long and hard about whether we, as citizens, are happy with the way the country is behaving. I don't agree with every aspect of Nicky's perspective but there is more than sufficient documentation for us all to remember to take personal responsibility for the way we vote, at the very least.

Looking forward to how Metro magazine joins their campaign to this one.

Legal Beagle: Legislate in haste..., in reply to
Well, we're not first world in so many things now and it's untrue to say that we're third world, so where else does this leave us? Two and a half?

We seem to be drawn inexorably to a second world status.

Can you link to the Computerworld article, please?

I think Bryan Gould's opinion piece in today's NZ Herald also applies to all the various debates above. When business is the only agenda in society we all suffer, eventually. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/news/article.cfm?c_id=3&objectid=10718631

Hard News: Really good, actually, in reply to
Plus don't forget that everything in TVNZ's archives (whether owned by TVNZ or not) will be able to be broadcast (free to air or pay) with $300 per half hour of material to be shared between everyone involved irrespective of the contracts agreed at the time of creation. That's $300 between writer/ director/producer/actor(s)/ voices/technicians etc etc. With lawmakers like this I now understand the attraction of doing an FTA with the USA et al.

Actually, no, that's the Samsung I just replaced, courtesy of True Rewards, although they can't explain how GST is accounted for in a points/cash redemption. -
The only real reason to continue to buy the SST is Rod Oram's business column.
