Sadly the Union Avenue link doesn't work for me.
And no 'Ghost Town'? Wow, happy I didn't make it, now.

I've had a subscription to the NBR forever, but there is no longer any must read material in the printed edition. I have no interest spending my money on online access if it isn't (even historically) in the print version.

The one good thing that has come out of this imbroglio is that Winston is back as an MP.
Never thought I'd say that...

Something that has intrigued me for some time - despite the general antipathy towards unions there is one that gets very deferential treatment - the professional rugby players' one. They get everything (and more) that ordinary workers could desire and seemingly no management issues. Maybe they're considered to be honorary CEOs?

Unions are in a bind, fewer members = less income = decreased ability to achieve results = less interest in people joining and so on in an ever decreasing spiral. The connection between the human side of our society and the practice of capitalism is disregarded to our detriment. As we saw in the Hobbit debacle there is a huge gulf in the respective media abilities of the unions/workers and the corporations. Whilst unions/workers are reduced to reacting against the actions of the corporations there will never be an easy way to keep the status quo intact, let alone improve matters.
I admit to be fascinated to seeing how the proposed plans to reduce the funding for the police turn out.
And how come there is no connection being made between the dock workers and the Mfat employees? Surely exactly the same principles are at stake in both cases?

All the sane commentators are against these sales. It's also very interesting to see how many are also against keeping the POAL facility in Auckland, rather suggesting it is moved out of the central city.

Finkelstein's report is not looking very healthy, judging by the comments on the Mumbrella site - http://mumbrella.com.au/digital-naivety-dooms-the-finkelstein-inquiry-77337 .

At least NZOA is transparent about its funding - try getting that same information out of the NZ Film Commission at the time of funding and/or making of a feature film!

Bryan Bruce, the maker of the programme that screened on TV3 on Tuesday evening in the Inside NZ documentary slot, has set up a Facebook page to ask all candidates to declare that they will agree to cross party talks on child health after this weekend's coming election.

Hard News: The Politics of Absence, in reply to
It is a real shame that Labour seems unable to step outside its recent non-collaborative position and work with other centre and left of centre political bodies. Perhaps they will recognise this as an opportunity for them - and the country - after the election. In the interim, had they allowed the retrospective law to be passed I had vowed to not support them this time, seemingly that is not now so clear cut.
