  • Hard News: History is now,

For one brief, shining moment on the NY Times front page, Texas is blue. Thank you, Austin and Houston.

Gotta love early-days results from the NYT - Maine is currently 66% for Obama, 33% for McCain, at 2 votes to 1...

  • Hard News: History is now,

This has got to be the mother of all PAS threads. It took a whole eleven days for the copyright thread to hit 16 pages.

  • Hard News: God's squads,

I know and hate those sounds - from an astonishingly widespread and incredibly awful advert for downloadable IM smileys. Generally once I encounter that ad I never visit the site in question again. Are you listening, website owners?

  • Hard News: History is now,

    His shoulders.

I actually have a lot of the sympathy for the man, having read up on his injuries earlier on. Dude can't raise his arms above shoulder level at all - thanks to two broken shoulders not being set at all whilst he was captive in North Vietnam - and has to have other people brush his hair and so on before he goes out in public. His right leg also got sliced in the same jet crash that broke his shoulders, hence the herky-jerky walk.

He used to hide it much better. In 2000 then-presidential candidate George Bush was impressed with McCain and reportedly asked staffers if McCain would like to work out with him at the gym. McCain's staffers explained in as polite a way as they could manage that McCain didn't and couldn't really "work out" at all; Bush was reportedly a bit mystified. They might have needed to spell it out a bit more clearly.

  • Hard News: God's squads,

Actually, Grant, I'm grateful to you for bothering to go and do the research to answer the question. Seriously.

Seconded - thanks from me for specifically chasing up the stuff I was asking about. I still disagree wholeheartedly, but can now do so on a slightly more informed basis... :)

  • Hard News: God's squads,

fucking funny don't you think how everyone has a bandwidth of an opinion about what happens to unborn babies and womens' uterus and no one gives a so much as a droplet of a fuck about young boys getting their foreskins cut off and thrown out for the dogs

Hey, you got my attention at least. Now what exactly are you talking about?

Grant: let us know the results of your email, please. I've tried to parse the FF website, but can't quite work out a solid message from the (atrociously expressed) sentence you quoted...

    crepuscular cunny-slapping cretins

Fuck, talk about your undesired mental images. I know that one of them has actually managed to breed, against all rules of logic and divine justice, but I'd rather not be reminded of it...

  • Hard News: Because They Could,

    Oh lord.

The likely victory of socialist Barack Obama in Tuesday's presidential election is an indictment of Airhead America, says SOLO Principal Lindsay Perigo.

"Thanks to the capture of the state education system long ago by Gramscian leftists, generations of Americans have grown up illiterate, not only unable properly to read, write, do maths or think logically, but ignorant of their country's history and indifferent to its uniqueness ...

Thus, when a far-left presidential candidate like Obama, steeped in Gramscian political correctness and the jargon of gender/class/race warfare, is discovered to have bemoaned the 'constraints' placed upon government by the Founding Fathers and the absence of 'positive rights' (i.e. 'entitlements,' the enslavement of some to others and of *all* to the government) in the Constitution, there is no controversy.

...The transformation of a once-muscular, proud, capitalist, individualistic United States of America, land of the free and home of the brave, into the Union of Soviet Socialist States of America is near-complete.

The only thing to be said for a vote for McCain/Palin is that it's a vote *against* Obama bin Biden, and may buy the country some time: time to reverse its slide into a European-style 'social democracy' - i.e., full-blown collectivist tyranny based on the airheaded consent of the tyrannized. For that to happen, not just Senator McCain and Governor Palin but millions more Americans need to snap out of their addled airhead postmodern stupor and acquaint themselves with Ayn Rand."

I lol'd. Then I cried a little in my heart for the people who really do lap this stuff up.
