  • Island Life: Abusage,

i get annoyed by people who are "impacted" by things.

"affected" seems more appropriate. unless you've been hit by a meteorite

  • Hard News: Radio Times,

i'd be gutted if national cut funding to national radio. I'm a big fan of nine to noon and saturday morning. I can listen morning report for a maximum of about half an hour, before its all too much too early in the day.

On the other hand, bFM is great in the morning (though i do miss wallace), except when mike havoc is talking to john key and helen clark. Am i the only one who finds his interviews excruciatingly partisan?

oh and just to add to your confusion, a lot of phones these days can be used as mp3 players

  • Hard News: Consumer,

I don't own an ipod or anything like it, and I would like to know which would be the best one to have

have you tried your friend's ipods/mp3 players, to see what you like? the only thing i'd recommend is if you're going running with it, make sure it doesn't have a hard drive (the new ipod touches are ok, as they have flash drives)

i have a creative zen vision m, which i really like - its like an ipod with a few extra features, like fm radio, plug-and-play hard drive mode and general windows friendliness. but it's kinda out of date these days.

    this might help you:

FM radio in an mp3 player? What would be the point?

for listening to the radio while i walk to/from work. it's weird, but that's what i use my phone for the most (other than making calls!)

of course, if you had plenty of data allowance, you could listen to web radio

I just don't get the fawning adulation over the iJobs

ha ha. i'm a sceptic too. apple make beautiful products, but i'm wary of the hype. where's the FM radio? that's the second most useful thing on my nokia phone

    baaaaa

  • Readers' Tips,

Russell, that is so weird I had to google it. I don't think the towel thing is good advice - you could damage the components in the xbox.

apparently the red ring of death problem is caused by the xbox overheating, warping the circuitboards and cracking the soldered connections:

There is a much beter way to fix this (heat gun). Now I will admit I have had to do the heat gun trick four times now but each time I get at least two to three months of play from it. The only real fix for this is to remove the CPU and GPU and resolder the BGA connections. I think that posting this on digg as the fix all for your xbox360 problems is misinforming and will likely result in alot of broken consoles if not housefires. If you want to learn how to do the heatgun trick go to xboxhacker.com and run a search for 0102. Side note you may also want to pull the heatsinks up and put down real thermal paste. I checked my processor last week and the thermal compound was literaly the consistancy of rubber. If you find the same on your 360 scrape it off and replace with artic thunder thermal compound or at least something other than rubber.
