Hard News: The sole party of government, in reply to
They could also start to take A hardline attitude to media bias,,as the Democrats did in the U.S. Pointing out commentators who are clearly cheering p.r instruments of the New Zealand National Party,
Doubt who in NZ has the balls to do it. Looks like whining when coming from politicians.
Similarly with the 'think tank' situation - these organisations are not independent so don't report them as if they are.I still can't understand why people don't call bias, spin and deceit when they see it. It was nice to see David Slack at least make an attempt on the Panel recently. But why did we have to wait so long? Why does no one call out the other crazies like Denise The Strange Orbit or Jock Anderson? This program leads into the the major news broadcast in the country. It is too important to let cozy Jim get away with his schtick.
I know NZ is a small country but the 'mateyness' of our media is tiresome. -

Collins, Bridges, Williamson and Key and others should be constantly reminded...
But will they? I have visions of Labour and the Greens totally dropping this ball as they go on a desperate soul searching mission. The failure of the left will be blamed on Dirty Politics. Anything dodgy will be airbrushed out of existence by the media.

surely it has been rejected three times already? like National was after Shipley?
but hey what would we elitists know…

...pushed the idea that not voting was a really good idea.
Surprised that I haven't heard anyone mention the anti-democratic sentiment beamed through channel FOUR over the last few weeks. The constant ridiculing of political participation could have come straight from National Party HQ.

'So you can do what DC just did and say we know you like these guys and what they stand for but Labour is now going to be this, ta dah.'
But did anyone outside the twitterati actually know what the 'ta dah' Labour Party was?
I'll be buggered if anyone around me knew. They are still stuck on 'nanny state' and 'Helengrad' thanks to a diet of talk back radio and Jim Mora sponsored, balanced debate. -

'People like Goff, Mallard, King, Dyson' - these guys are not well liked in my rural social circles. They are just a reminder of the old Labour Party that is now as dowdy and worn as they are.
I would say - 'People in their electorates know them well, don't have big issues with them and 'will trade again'.
Labour will need to do a hell of a lot more than rely on this if they want to regain power. -
The recent rise in right wing funded polling companies and their use of push polling concerns me.
There appears to be a simple way for Labour or the Greens to reduce the ability for polling companies to conduct polls that the media can rely upon to further whatever agenda they are pushing. If they were to publicly instruct their voter base to ALWAYS say that they will vote for National - any subsequent poll will have a margin of error that makes it irrelevant.
Yes, this will make it difficult for them to do their own polling of party support but that seems a small price to pay for removing Farrar's influence. -
Jim Mora is the natural replacement for Maggie Barry and Sean Plunket. Anyone who has spent time around him will be aware of his political aspirations. It is obvious that he is being groomed by his right wing friends for future stardom. His 'most trusted' status is a great asset.
A collegue of his told me that he is also a devotee of those 'word of the day' websites. We now have great fun spotting his most recent acquisition. Often it's pretty easy - he tortures his commentary in order to allow the insertion of his 'mot juste'. The sad thing is that he often uses the default American English pronunciation. Oh! how we giggle.
His personal opinions have led some to quip that the suffix 'Socialism' should be added to the Radio New Zealand National moniker...

'Necessary, reasonable? Public domain?'
Check his twitter feed. It seems that Matthew thinks that his self disclosed alcoholism is what John Key was referring to in the 'problems Matthew has' comment.

I agree he is sometimes a dickwad but at least he's now a sober one.
We'll done Matthew on giving up the booze.
I think you'll find us lefties are more accepting of any personal demons than your chosen leader seems to be.
