on my mobile devices baboon automatically downloaded the tracks I'd bookmarked , or whatever they all it, on desktop - this was most excellent for me (sure others will hate that) - not a fan of how spotify does this, its a real pain if you want to add dozens of songs to offline as it stops and starts and doesn't function as soon as the device goes to sleep

my guess is that almost all of them were over 30 – Ponsonby types who wanted to listen to dance music but not noisy guitar music.
from my experience at george the active listeners (texting and calling - who were more inclined to do both than B's listeners, I went from B to george..) were young (over 20), scattered all over the country - the ponsonby thing was imo their initial market and then "branding"
always hated the Other Stations Are Shit line... the longer they used it the more stagnant the station sounded - other stations are choice... but they're not the B!

The WSU was making dumb decisions with regards to contact well before the sell off - one example, in my day they gave The Rock exclusive rights to be played in the student cafe, on gear bought and gifted to the cafe by Contact (way to go guys) amongst other things - voluntary unionism and a marked shift to the right by the student council was the writing on the wall some years pre the eventual station demise.
The end result has been Hamilton's creative community lost a really good hub of information sharing to the city and outside
The glory days of Student radio I would have to say was the 80's - it was the time the stations went FM, embraced the alternative musical structure, became more "professional" (paid staff), and generally laid all the groundwork that the 90's built upon so magnificently - it was also a decade that saw such huge changes in music and wider youth cultures that the stations embraced (embracing local music (rise of the Nun) dance, hip hop and various other forms of guitar driven sounds).Since the 80s on the stations have changed so much but also not that much at all as the student radio culture was set and from there they've continued to build - long may the young of the nation fuck shit up!

there is no information on how Spotify has gone since Apple Music’s launch.
It was the fifth most downloaded app on the US iTunes store the week of apple music's launch - which suggests they benefitted from all the added publicity (good and bad) they received courtesy of Apple
Digital Music News suggests spotify is set to dramatically change the free use terms to severely limit what people can do, all but rendering it useless to those who use it a lot... I wonder if this is due to rights holders demands? Sorry, can't find the link to the story, it seems to have vanished from the site, still shows in google search.
I guess 11 million checking out apple music is a big number, but given the tens of millions more who have a device and iTunes account its seems like an abject failure - much like using the damn thing, like yourself I am buggered if I can get it to work in a manner that makes it the joy I know it could be... which si frustrating cause like you when you find some part of it that works and is good its great
Streaming is now... and damn the streaming companies (except youtube & soundcloud for now) make it hard for a music fan, spotify is increasingly a horrendous user experience (keep it simple , not) and apple music is a well documented pain to use

It's just a little depressing that so much of accountability seems contingent on Opposition parties coming up with the perfect gotcha. Surely there's more to it than the game ...
This... and it is so so so very depressing, everyone wants the gotcha and associated cheap laughs at someone else expense meanwhile the country remains on some sort of weird auto pilot

The govt must be held to account - though the process being fair and all that won't be fast enough for the public to take much notice
