is it odd that the reaction (online and so far) to mediaworks announcement of a cross platform newshub and show is pretty much the exact opposite to Checkpoint on RNZ - both organisations are doing similar things (for different commercial reasons)

from my seat the biggest change is the state seems happy to accept this as the norm - many of us here (it seems) grew up before the welfare state started to be dismantled and there was a real belief that helping and supporting others was a public good and duty of the state and ourselves - this wasn't just confined to here, we also wanted our govt and others to help other nations do better to

its been going on longer than that, direct marketing this way has always exploited the worker, only thing thats possibly changed is the workforce has got older as real employment/cost of living has got harder, i.e. its not just kids doing this

overheads + production costs are probably down, offset these against possible lose of earnings from advertising and TV3 might just be doing better on the books than they were and all the physical assets are still in place if there was a desire to hock em off... if thats oaktress focus (the books) ???

as long as radio stays profitable then they're sweet
