TV One’s (and to a lesser extent the NZH) coverage of the Americas Cup is starting to get close to the depths of the 1995 and 2003 campaigns.
How can a news bulletin urge you to stay up until midnight (on TV1) and “wish the boat on”??

Is there anywhere else in NZ (the world?) where someone would donate to a released prisoner a jersey in replica rugby colours??? It really is about time Canterbury formed its own break-away republic.
Anyway, the guy in theory should be a true-blue Otago man.

Slightly OT, but anyone belittling the effect of D Bain's sentence needs to look no further than to watch him on the News tonight. A totally different person.
For so long he's been in this time capsule of a 22 year-old; now he's 35 and looking pretty middle-aged. All those years wasted...
(On the bright side, at least he's sorted out his fashion sense while behind bars) -
1. So is it OK to watch a bit of beastility as a curiosity (um, who could get turned on by that?)
2. How do I get an avatar round here? (no sheep please) -
Glenora did produce Dean Lonergan though. Where would boxing be without him?!
Interesting circle developing here.
From one "White Knight" to another.
Out of interest, what were Glenora thinking back in '76? And didn't Joe realise he'd get a stack-load of diamonds for touring the Republic and ruining the Montral Olympics?

You might be right Yamis, but I grew up in the city so I guess there was some kind of macarbre interest. It's important to know what makes Canterbury tick.....
You'd agree that Joe Karam is more interesting than your average NZ sportsman though?
-
I challenge anyone (who "grew up" in the 80s to say they have not viewed a minute's worth of beastiality video ("Animal Farm"?) not for gratification but for curiosity's sake... That does not equate to enjoyment.
Anyway, Joe Karam has always been more interesting than most; The Early years

Russell,
The sad thing is that in 9 games out out 10 Oram would NOT have walked.
On the biggest stage we (McCullum esp.) failed in the mental toughness. OK, we are probably 3rd in the word, but we could've given 2nd more of a shake than we did.
And the omens for that other Word Cup in France begin...

The benchmark is Sri Lanka; off-shore island from big cricketing power etc...
..and we lost to them again.I agree with celebrating Flem though; we will miss him.

3410,
In 1992 and even more in 1979 we may have come closer to a final, but ultimately we came no closer or further away this time around.
It's 0/5 in semis in the CWC. Contrast that with Aus (6/6) or our benchmark SL (2/2).
It's the brainlessness (Bond's bowling, Oram, The keeper and the Captain in Waiting) dismissals that hurt.
