Hard News: Where are the foreigners?!, in reply to
(has anyone researched year-on-year camper van rentals? )
I'd be interested too, from what we see in the regions the camper van rental companies must be having the time of their lives! Driving down Thames coast two weekends ago we passed a convoy of camper vans (heading up to Coromandel) with French flags - maybe about 15 in a row?

We've definitely seen a deluge of camper vans and foreign tourists in our region (Matamata-Piako) and we noticed the same in Coromandel two weekends ago.

On the RWC front I’m just really, really bored with media turning it into an ongoing series of “Look How We F*ck Everything Up”. Can’t we just be idiotically excited enough to feel good about ourselves for a couple of weeks?
And, uh, I’m now almost totally ashamed to admit it but those Sky ads made me giggle.
Added afterthought: It’s advertising. Of course it’s vaguely embarrassing, a bit stupid, only mildly amusing and designed to make us buy buy buy.
I mean, even this made me giggle:
Throwing aside your natural instincts and lacy lingerie, standing proudly in your flannelette pyjamas and whispering, ‘I love you, New Zealand.’Perhaps I’m just an idiot.

They missed the best:
Lady Mary Crawley: Sybil is entitled to her opinions.
Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: No. She isn't until she is married, then her husband will tell her what her opinions are. -
Muse: WHORISH SELF-PROMOTION VS.…, in reply to
Back off, bitch. I've thrown more elbows at charity book fairs, church fetes and remainder sales than you've had hot dinners. :)
This makes me wonder how many times we might have unknowingly tussled!

Muse: That Book, The Ban That Isn't,…, in reply to
That is the point people keep making, and other people keep missing: it’s a boycott, not a ban.
Part of the problem, though, is that a lot of the people who are missing that point are those supporting it.

Isn't the whole point of Sense and Sensibility that an over-reliance on romantic tosh means you'll wind up nearly dying of pneumonia and should have just married that nice middle-aged widower in the first place?
Especially if that nice middle-aged widower is Alan Rickman.

Apropos of that Dan Kois piece, Phineas and Ferb are TEH AWESUM!
"You will always be my,
Little brothers,
Cause you're younger,
We're related, and you're boys"
