Hard News: Not good enough, Eden Park, in reply to
so what are we supposed to do? Lock ourselves up at home and never go out?
No, I suggest you do what I do, speaking as one with a moderately sensitive disposition. The public events I attend have a prevailing culture compatible with my levels of passive tolerance.
But by all means, kick up a fuss over what offends you, the marketeers are all ears. Just be aware of your own cultural bubble within a democratic context.

Hmm, I don't know about this one.
In my experience a typical rugby crowd is always going to have a few assholes in it. If you're of a sensitive disposition, I suggest you don't go.

I suspect there's rather a lot of contrived hysteria over synthetic cannabis. Tried some a few months ago. Apart from the taste the effect was indistinguishable from natural cannabis - which, I might add, I rarely partake of these days.

Golden Age? I don’t think so. Classic bubble mentality.
Most practising artists have little in common with gold.

We don’t need no steenkin’ rail, says Roughan. Congestion and capacity issues on the roads could be fixed by simply synchronising traffic lights.
Actually I agree with Roughan for once - well kinda. My guess is that in 20 years time, cars will all be talking to eachother under the central control of artificial intelligence. Traffic lights won't be needed - or trains for that matter.
Oops, talking about shit I don't really know again.

forming with Henry, Lhaws, and their ilkthe fraternity of uppity nigglers.
Much as I appreciate the humour here - I feel we are stepping into the arena of those we are condeming for their failed humour.
Didn't fail for me in the case of the latter example. Love that Stephen Colbertesque edgy irony.
Holmes was blind to many things, including, quite often, himself.
Part of the human condition. Everyone lives in a bubble in my experience - the only one you can't see is your own. Pays to float around a bit, even if you encounter the occasional prick...

Even if it’s consensual, and the supposed victim is (mostly) aware of the wider context?
I think that's that point I'm making - I doubt that she is aware of the wider context, or that people are making fun of her. Does her apparent obliviousness make it okay?

Did you actually watch it?
Yeah… well, some of it. I clicked on your link. Killed it when HD-A did the whip around.
Still, this kind of ‘freak show’ piece seems perfectly acceptable to the sensibilities of our contemporary media establishment. Perhaps you have the groundbreaking desensitizers like Paul Holmes to thank for that.
edit - perhaps I misused the word 'bullying' as I was factoring in an imagined audience reaction. Maybe 'exploitative' would be more apt.

Have you actually seen the track? I think Karen’s a hell of a lot more robust than you give her credit for.
Hee hee. Let's make fun of a stupid person.
That's how it comes across to me. Bullying.

That’s like Godwinning any media thread, right?
What, referring to Jimmy Savile?
