For me coming back to NZ, the weirdest and unexpectedest thing was to feel homesick, when I'd supposedly come home. That left me in a transient grey space for at least 2 years.
Contrary to the advice above, I'd say shed as much as you can, come back light hearted, light boxed and full of possibilities. Those papers and books will just weigh you down forever. That said, if you're a hoarder then sure, bring it all :)
Good luck, and I do look forward to knowing you a bit when you're here. -
Hard News: Just don't call it "Party Central", in reply to
New Zealand On Screen installation
I gather this was inside the cloud? I need it, now! Are they going to put that on the App store? Using the iPad 2 camera, the hours of fun you could have would be almost limitless.
Nope, the New Zealand On Screen installation is on Queens Wharf in Auckland, and the Te Papa promenade in Wellington. This gorgeous wee iPad app (courtesy of the geniuses at Chrometoaster in Wellington) is available in both locations. Also in the Caravan of Kiwi Classics – touring the south island.
See more here: New Zealand On Screen and come down to check it out! -
I'm going to stay in and watch The Hollow Men, which I started watching last night. It's sufficiently horrifying to be recommended viewing for all New Zealanders!
Go on, stream it from your iPad via your AppleTV and get the full screen mind-blowing wonder of it burnt into your brains.
Also, for some light relief, is Only Son - the award-winning 48 hour short film which is pretty damn funny:
And then, if you're not over it yet, the much-requested Terry and the Gunrunners - which is truely awesome.

Hard News: Really good, actually, in reply to
The CSI effect would have been better without the prolonged attempt at humour.
Moar does not mean betterer.
Oh don't be such an old fart. It was awesome and funny :)

I was thinking that I could go onto NZ on Air and transmit programmes from my computer to my tv. The only problem is I don't know how. Can anyone help?
If you mean NZ On Screen then you can view programmes from the website on your TV by connecting them via a cable. Or as of next week via an AppleTV using Airplay (yes Russell, we've fixed it).
If you mean TVNZ OnDemand then it's the same (not sure about airplay though) but you can essentially use the TV as a screen. Not really about transmitting in this case.
Or I've missed the point entirely - which does happen :)

Ponies - they're pretty much horses right?
In which case, here's an entire collection of videos with Horses in them!http://www.nzonscreen.com/collection/horse
How could you resist?!

(Most shocking to me, however, was the same 1987 duvet cover that I just found in my cupboard - what does that mean?)
Strangely, this is the 3rd time I've had that comment made to me. Were there any other duvet patterns in 1987?

Apple aside, for your Friday viewing entertainment, if you haven't seen it already, check out this 1987 episode of Close Up featuring a 25 year old John Key as a 'senior forex trader'.
Other than the glasses, the waterbed, the hairdos and the wooden technology (as someone described it), it's quite the fascinating insight into the past of our PM.

Hi Jolisa/Islander
A bit late on the reply but: you can in fact watch both Jewel’s Darl and Universal Drive in full, for free, on NZ On Screen.
Also Jolisa: note we make a special mention of who the writers are in the synopses for both dramas (and in the credits) ...
