The whole first episode, streamed from the MySpace page.
Not sure what American audiences will make of it - hell, I'm not sure what I make of it!

I really liked this and am sure there will be audiences for it. Kind of Curb Your Enthusiasm madness.

JCDC,
I have an unfortunate tendency to cringe watching most NZ comedy shows but his was brilliant. I hope the yanks like it, it could be huge.

I enjoyed it immensely but I can't see it taking the US by storm. But then the US market is so huuuge that even an underground cult hit should secure them some prime waterfront real estate anywhere of their choosing in NuZild.
Prediction Some political pointscoring in the House when it screens on Prime - along the lines of "Why did TVNZ miss this talent/show? What's the point of the Charter?" -
Finally had time to watch this - I think it's great. However, I did almost immediately think 'hey, this kind of reminds me of that six-episode Tenacious D HBO series from 1999, that one I used to watch while stoned at two in the morning'. It's not that their songs sound the same or anything, and obviously no one's going to be as crazed as Jack Black was, but the 'tone' of the show is similar.
So, I am such a dorky nerd that I looked up all the credits for both shows on the IMDB and did, in fact, find at least one executive producer in common (Troy Miller), as well as several people who seem to have milled around in that general 'Mr Show with Bob and David'-esque soup for some years. In fact, most of the Conchords' producers worked on Mr Show, and Bob Odenkirk and David Cross co-wrote the Tenacious D series, and... well, it's pretty incestuous.
So I'm thinking that there will be some kind of audience for this. The people behind the scenes on this show have worked steadily in 'cult' comedy for over a decade now.

Great show and so damn funny. Really shows the quirkiness of NZ males. I have to thank the Americans for making the most kiwi show I’ve seen but realistically I can’t imagine NZ TV could support a show with such a specific audience.

It looks a bit wait-and-see. I do love the boys' laconic stupidity and it's great to see the actress who played the Christian nympho Nancy in Peep Show. But the BBC radio show was way funnier (and had better songs).

FYI: Flight of The Conchords are on Letterman tonite (Wednesday) at around 11pm on Prime.
-
but no, we'll bump Letterman and play the League instead. Which means Prime won't play it because they never do (when an episode gets bumped) and they probably have no clue they were on anyway.
Oh well, watch it here instead

NPR's Terry Gross interviews the lads here and only misses a couple of jokes. Worth hearing for the spit-roast story alone.

For the 'yeah, you really didn't get it, did you?' review file:

I particularly like the part where dude makes fun of their dancing. Because of course the dancing style in that video wasn't deliberate, or anything.

That sure is an awful review Danielle. Fortunately some Americans appreciate the humour. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/06/15/arts/television/15flig.html

That first episode is now available from the NZ iTunes Store as a high-quality video podcast too.

My Friends in America hooked me up with episode two, and I just want to say how deeply, deeply funny the fake New Zealand promotional posters they've worked up are. Particularly at the trade expo, where two merely say 'Giant Carrot' with a picture of the Ohakune carrot in question, and 'The Shed That's Shaped Like a Sheep' with, uh, a picture of the shed that's shaped like a sheep (Tirau, right?). I almost cried with laughter at those.
(There's a little shout-out to the now-defunct Paua Shell house in Bluff, too. Sigh.)

Hmmm... I can see only snippets, not the whole first episode.
I think late high-school and college-age Americans will go for it. At the SF Film Festival, the audience loved Eagle vs Shark, which has the same sort of humor. Marketing is the key here in the US.

A commentator on ESPN's Sportscenter just quoted a FotC song during a baseball highlight.
World domination is clearly imminent.
