Maybe there is a chance for Justin Marshall after all?
I think if there is one halfback that is probably considered as much a dick at NZRU HQ, it's probably Justin Marshall. That whole "I want to come back to NZ and contribute to NZ rugby after buggering off for a few years, but they won't sign me up to a contact" probably didn't go down well.

"Beckham leaves field with broken wrist, silly haircut"
Niiice, Beckham would be the male equivalent of Sharapova. He is the only sportsperson who shows up on E! -
Sue,
but is that tennis player just an example of the fact that women's tennis scheduling is always bumped to make way for the boys.

Can I put in an early guess for this week’s Dick of the Week?

Surely Veitch doesn't count as a sportsman?

Surely Veitch doesn't count as a sportsman?
From the blog:
Every week the Dropkicks do a segment called "Dick of the Week" where we select an athlete or someone involved in sports who has done something really stupid or harmful to themselves or others and "boo" them.
He's someone involved in sports.
Particularly if hitting your girlfriend and then giving her money not to say anything about it is a sport. Sounds like he needs more than a week to me.
-
Then he'd get my vote. If that's the criteria, he's won the annual prize as well.
-
Not much of a "secret".

I’d have thought it’s pretty hard for TVNZ to run the “It’s not OK” ads just before or after the sports ads now.
Obviously the beating is indefensible, but I’d almost say the hush money is worse.
-
Split the dick award between that little prat Veitch and the geniuses from TVNZ who let that sad game show run so long.
What a lineup: Mike King and his infamous answerphone message hate, Martin Devlin and his not famous enough email hate, and Matthew Ridge and ... I can't think what he's done, but he's a witless tool. And now an angry little bully who chucked his ex down the stairs.

Prime shud get a nomination for "Grass ROOTS Rugby".

he's won the annual prize as well.
Really? I mean, isn't it still the same year in which Tea Ropati's defense to a rape charge was, "We were so wasted no-one knows who consented to what"?
-
This is just BTW, btw, I've always hated the word "root" used in that context. Is it derived from rut or something similar?

I think it'd be hard for them not to run the ads. Russell says "it's not ok" and then, cue Veitch.
But just so you know we won't be mentioning Vietch on the Dropkicks, for similar reasons to why we didn't mention the English rape allegations: the podcast is meant to be fun and those issues ar too serious to made fun of.

Quite literally "dicks". Or so they say.

Actually, I think Three deserves a nomination for coating their coverage of that incident in such a thick crust of sanctimonious bullshit. OK, I expect Three to take every opportunity to sledge the opposition (and vice versa) but does anyone really believe that the Three switchboard was really "jammed within minutes" by calls and e-mails from hundreds of outraged viewers?
I'd also love to nominate the folks who were apparently paralysed that they were utterly incapable of shielding their younglings' eyes, white hitting the off switch.
OK, someone at Sky/Prime should be looking for a new job now and the BSA could potentially order Prime to stop showing advertising or cease broadcasting entirely for a period of time. It wasn't a trivial matter, but watching Three present this (literally within hours) as some kind of degrading assault on the innocence of children was a wee bit much. Especially when they made damn sure we got plenty of titilating -- yet tastefully pixilated -- footage to make sure we all knew what pronography is like.

Slate has a nifty little video on the Art of Fessing Up. It looks like someone's been taking notes.
