My last manager was terrific. Left you alone to get on with things, but had a great bullsh*t detector and deceptively sharp judgement.
And very union-friendly. So union-friendly, he's now policy director for CTU :) -
Haywood had the answer. Get rid of the gas guzzlers.
and
IIRC his answer was a bit more nuanced than that
Then
If David saying the average consumption of petrol and diesel in this country is of the order of 9.something litres / 100km and the technology (ie cars and trucks) with a modern fleet can get it down the 4.5 L /100km, then any way you nuance it, that says: Get rid of the gas guzzlers.
Halving the gas bill is mildly significant isn't it?
Edit. have just replayed the bit: He only mentioned cars in the "half that" quote about dropping the fuel consumption.

Must just be me then, cause..this...

just seems to hit my ear better than .... this...
Get rid of the gas guzzlers.
Weird.

3410,
Here is where I do my semi-regular rant about poor Cookie Monster now being forced to sing 'cookies are a sometimes food'. He's fucking COOKIE MONSTER.
I really hope that that was a scene from
Monsterpiece Theatre presents: One Flew Over The Cookie's Nest.
Otherwise, another small part of me will die inside. -

3410,
she's not wrong.
Yeah, I know.
I was just imagining Cookie Monster after a lobotomy, shuffling slowly forward, saying "Cookies... are a... sometimes... food...", and then winking.

sometimes a grate notion...
One Flew Over The Cookie's Nest.
But Chief, they're all Sesameal Crackers in there...

But management doesn't 'produce' anything!
Aha! See, that's where you pinko socialist commie bastards are wrong. Who do you think has to look after all that "Hard Earned Money"™?. You see, "Hard Earned Money"™ is not like ordinary money. Minimum wages or low pay are good for the bottom line or shareholder dividends and that ain't easy to justify hence "Hard Earned Money"™ The suffering that managers have to go through knowing that the people that produce the profit are the ones who earn the least. So you see that "Hard Earned Money"™ must be appreciated more than wages or a benefit (which is why it is called a Salary, salt, wounds etc.) More of this "Hard Earned Money"™ must be left in the pockets of middle class management and business types, by cutting taxes and reducing regulation of such things as workers rights and conditions by reducing Government interference, so that they can buy more of the things that the low paid produce. Otherwise the low paid will lose their jobs. See? simple isn't it?.

And speaking of roads uber alles on National's part, this article has a great "money quote" from the National MP for Tukituki, Craig Foss, about how putting increased logging freight onto rail is really just a slippery slope to mass unemployment in the road freight industry. Shows whose pockets National are in.
There's also some seriously disturbing "logic" from the Mayor of Gisborne, with an implication that it's worth sacrificing a few lives at the hands of more crashes - if KiwiRail doesn't get the logging contract it's going to mean an extra 50-80 return trips a day by logging trucks on SH2 - in order to get SH2 upgraded. That's scary thinking. -

Oh no! Don't tell me that. I loved him and Orinoco because of their excess - what a way to spoil it.
Very very belated, but when I saw that I straight away thought of this:
We told ourselves that he had just wised up,
Was being cool; but we could not fool ourselves for long,
And we turned away, our eyes on the ground. Crushed.
He had been our Destroyer, the doer of things
We dreamed of doing but could not bring ourselves to do...I prefer 3410's optimism above, though. :)
