Ahh, the great band names of the past, I remember seeing the Calamari Bushmen on posters around Tokoroa in my youth.
Some names just stick in your head, even if you never hear a song by the band. Hapuka Lips Now is one forever lodged in the 'useless info' corner of my cerebrum, no idea what they played, just a catchy name. -
Cool - nice to see there are a few people on here who know about these bands.
tis the beauty of our land - ie not everyone is from the big centres and every town had its original bands, playing to no one but the fermenting home brew

One band name that stuck in my mind was "Naughty Amoeba". Here are some recent ones I like:

They certainly show a bit more imagination than Dick Fuckxx and the Goatfucking Nunrapers.

Beat Rhythm Fashion sounded like they'd recently been expelled from Eton,

Turn of the Century is one of the greatest singles ever produced in this country. Released back in 1981 by a Wellington three piece called Beat Rhythm Fashion, their output amounted to a trilogy of singles, before disappearing across the ditch. Over 20 years down the track, they hold their own easily alongside the likes of The Cure, Joy Division and Young Marble Giants, all reference points for their sound.

The common element in the Boogadagas, the Calamari Bushmen, and Hapuka Lips Now was Rotorua emigres in Hamilton, such as Paul Tregilgas.

I have a bogadagas live tape somewhere. recorded at a gig in that big mansion venue in rotorua with the bats. I recall them being very good but its been a long time since I've listen or heard. -

I know you posted this sometime ago but anyway....i played as the opening act at the bogadagas gig with the bats as a 15 yr old school kid. our band was pet cemetery...man would love to get hold of that recording...can you help?
