paver lover?
meringue or merengue
now that's a stretch! -
Was 5907 pavers hyperbole, btw? That's a big number! At, say, 25cm square, that's 16 of them per square meter, suggesting you have pavers covering 370 square meters.
I definitely feel the pain, having moved only about 10 square meters of pavers to another location in my garden, taking away a courtyard to make pathways. It took a whole day. Every tool you can bring to bear on a task like that, you should. Moving a similar amount of gravel is far less work because you can at least use a shovel to pick it up and a wheelbarrow to carry it. With pavers you have to actually bend right to the ground to pick them up. A low trolley of some kind would have saved me hours of work.
2 people can also do this kind of work with more than double efficency - one standing, one kneeling, saves all of that lifting of your whole body weight. That working bee sounds like a very good idea.

That's the problem of the solo worker (done a *lot* of that!) - you waste a helluva lot of energy. My informed-by-experience estimate is - a working mate will help you get a job done in one 1/3rd of the time- -

Alas no! But a whole bunch of them are just regular bricks, so it's rather less area than it could be...

That's about the ratio I get when Saint Dalziel assists. It's like having the job on turbocharge. Mind you, some of that might be attributable purely to Dalziel's inherent full-of-beans attitude to life.

It seems hard to find a good coppicing tree that is also not considered an invasive tree weed!
Dealbata certainly can be! A small well-managed plot is one thing, but let them get away... Eucalypts are good growers, though not so good for the soil. They can get scary big if you leave them a little long, though :)

Gloves, get good gloves! Ben's analysis takes me back many years and we used to do driveways. My ex did whole roads. Actually, I recall he relaid around a skyscraper in Martin Place in Sydney and they were small pieces but probably a million of them. I would go for student job search. My back is aching being reminded of all this. I'll be away now :)

Thank gord he's still kicking. Holidays. I can confirm for DH that Cooks Beach is still unaffected by Tsunamis. And lovely.
Pavers. Not cheap. Good to see you save some mullah!! And recycling.
Old Canadian joke from way back when the Rolling Stones were a tad younger. (Shit - it is right at the top of Wiki! ) Margaret Trudeau was a "guest" of Mick and co and the joke started doing the rounds.
Spa pools in the city. (Usually) need trunks. Spa in the country...
PS email me about the thermal pipe dug up. Me Interested. -

I could offer a pair of 14-year-olds who, with judicious and fairly reasonable applications of $20 notes and interesting conversation, are good at heaving, shoving and demolishing. Sometimes they even work for free. Taught demo by their daddy ( who is known to the sainted one).

Hebe,
I'm interested in hazel coppicing for the sapling wood to build garden structures, but I have no idea how long it takes to grow in Canterbury. Pussy willow has been used for coppicing at the BHU at Lincoln Uni; not sure about its firewood potential. The Donaghy shelterbelt at the BHU has a good design and is well worth studying.

I know willows are a noxious weed in some places, but they also make great dens!

Oh, now I get all the comments about the photo of Saint Dalziel! I thought they were just postmodern criticisms of his visibility in the image...
