  • giovanni tiso,

And I won't even mention the Recipes from Elsewhere or all the other reviews, articles etc etc.

I keep saying that - Elsewhere is a subset of the Internet, but only just.

  • Tony Parker,

As a very part time reviewer for NZ Musician I am in complete awe Mr Reid of your music reviews, obviously huge record collection and infinite knowledge and find Elsewhere to be an essential internet read.
As a huge and knowledgeable aficionado of Mr Young I have to agree with most of what you have said about the Archives. Even though I already have a lot of what's there (and some that's not there but should be, just don't tell Warner Bros I've got it) I still bought the cd set for what I didn't have and the excellent sound quality. It is possible to buy the individual discs from his website and from what I've read the Blu Ray set is nearly all sold out around the world already. You're right though, Vol 2 will be the kicker. Due in 3 years according to Neil's people.

  • Danielle,

Oh good, *someone* apart from me likes the new EC album. I think 'I Dreamed of My Old Lover' is the best song on it, though. I've been waiting for him to release that officially somewhere since, um... 2002. (Dearie me, what a huge nerd I am.)

  • Russell Brown,

Glad you liked The Checks' album too. It's interesting that they recorded it very quickly, and thus captured the moment of where they were.

It does make me wonder how the first one would've sounded if they'd done that the same way.

  • Stewart,

    Graham,

    just a tiny point (pedantry)...

In the Stones in the 70's, where you have mentioned the Black & Blue album there is a reference to a track "Memory" (with Billy Preston).
I think the track is actually called "Melody" & you've crossed it up with "Memory Motel".

(I'm a big fan of "Melody" - it is one of those unusual Stones numbers that seem out of character for them, but still work really well - like "Prodigal Son" from Beggars Banquet.)

No, no, I do too. I like Elvis when he goes all plastic Americana, most especially the slow stuff.

But it ain't as good as the last one, the instant noodle album

  • Stewart,

Am I right that it is Elvis C duetting with Lucinda Williams on 1 of the tracks on her latest CD? I was playing it in the car when we were touring the South Island earlier in the year & my ears pricked up as I recognised the voice but it tooks a few minutes to place it.

I couldn't agree more. I use to put it on mix tapes all the time for people. Why was Melody a "second name"? The whole album is a bit like that. Cherry Oh Baby, is I think the title of the other one.

  • Geoff Lealand,

I tried three different stores in Queen Street (including RealG) on Thursday, seeking "Sacred and Profane and Sugarcane" and not one had it in stock. Is EC really that obscure these days?

I was reading a review of the Neil Young "Archive" collection in the New Yorker (June 8-15) and Ben Greenman did berate him a bit for bewailing corporate power in "Fork in the Road", then "charging through the nose for the most self-aggrandizing product imaginable" ($US300 for the Blu-ray set)
