My question was one of surprise - repeats of Boston Legal in the old Rove slot might be cause for celebration. Rove in a new time slot might be too.
And I'm still loving __Studio 60.

Yep, it's the 2006 Christmas special. If you currently want to see the Kylie Christmas special, you'll need a Tardis.
But how about this - Catherine Tate, who plays the runaway bride, is coming back as the Doctor's companion for series four. (Not a plot spoiler, by the way.)
This has caused murmurings of displeasure amongst Doctor Who nerds on the intertubes, who find Ms Tate a little caustic and not quite the same calibre of hottie as Billie Piper and Freema Agyeman.

I thought the 'Starbuck's a man, MooreRont" crowd were scary, but every time there's a casting announcement on Doctor Who the craziest fandom in SF come out to frolic in their own waste products. Personally, I found the episode of the Catherine Tate Show I managed to wince through about as funny as a caustic soda enema, but really... Some folks on teh internets really live down to the stereotype that SF fans are socially retarded, misogynistic 40 year-old virgins who need to turn off the computer, move out of their parents' house, expose themselves to natural light and try interacting with real live women.

Wouldn't people have had pretty low expectations of Billie Piper when she was first cast? Imho she turned out to be one of the most kick arse wonderful of companions, ever.
Not all Dr Who fans fit Craig's description, but that doesn't stop some of my ilk from trying to give that impression every chance they get. Oy vey.

And she's due to make an appearance in a few episode of series two of Torchwood, which I'm really looking forward to.
I think having Catherine Tate was the Doctor's assistant may take some of the comedic burden away from the Doctor and let him get down to business.

Considerable understatement, Span. Took me a while to shake off the image of the stale pop tart who'd become something of a tabloid fixture. Piper also seem to be bucking the trend, and carving out a fairly respectable post-Who career to boot. I don't think I was the only person who had a multiple geek-gasm during School Reunion. Giles! K-9! Elizabeth Sladen returning as Sarah Jane Smith, who will always the standard every companion will never quite meet!

Yay! I wasn't the only one who got the snark-bomb lobbed in Sorkin's direction. I always suspected part of the casting process for The West Wing was a lung capacity test immediately after a 10 mile power walk. :)

If Catherine Tate can rescue her character from the annoying reality-TV-watching mundane that she was on the Runaway Bride then I will be happy. Otherwise I will happily cheer as she is slaughtered along with too many other similar characters that infest current Who.
I agree with Craig Ranapaia -- Sarah Jane is the true companion. I'm still hoping that the Sarah Jane Adventures will be the series that I'm anticipating.
On the other hand: Joss Whedon and the Beeb joining forces to make Ripper -- that is cool news!

Um, you're talking about the episode where misogynistic self-loathing alkie arsehole Tommy rapes his castrating, money-grubbing whore ex-wife for reasons I long since stopped caring about? Meh... anyone masochistic enough to sit up and watch Rescue Me deserves all the nausea they get.

Not really - the <i>Sarah Jane Adventures</i> was in the fortunate position of, (as Russell Davis himself so eloquently puts it) "[being] commissioned before we'd written the script. If we'd written a load of rubbish, they'd still have had to make it." It was just a case of there being a New Years slot open, and RTD grabbing it with both hands.
The SJA looks like its going to be a lot of fun, but like Torchwood is squarely aimed at a different audience than Who (which itself is a rather peculiar case of broad cross-generational appeal) and needs to be seen as such.
But how can you guys trash Billie Piper like that? You're being evil!
Feh... I don't like admitting I was wrong, but I'm all for over the hill, tabloid staple pop tarts displaying hitherto unsuspected talents. Gives me hope that the human race isn't irredeemably screwed. :)
