No response from 3 yet? How odd.

Hey, give us right wingers a break.
Hey, how about you right whingers give the 99% a break? (which, ironicaly , includes most of the right wingers too)
Anyhoo, I found the statement "If student loans were a business they would be running at a loss" to mean "we will run student loans as a loan shark would and then sell it"
It is bad enough that a generation of people that had zero fees at university not only want to make students pay for a University that is now run like a business, as opposed to an institution of learning, but want to make a business out of those loans to sell off to whoever can afford to buy in.
If those in government were any bloody good at running a business why aren't they doing that instead of fucking with the economy?.
Do they have some kind of agenda?. -

Was a Batman quote
Ah, but the correct quote is: “where does he get all those wonderful toys”
ETA: and that would put Goff in the role of the Joker. And he's neither that cool, nor that psychopathic.

I wish, they have ideology and that's very dangerous when wedded to a Govt. that knows the cost of everything and the value of nothing.

merc, in reply to
Jeebus Rich I was working from memory ;-) I'm not a journalist you know.

Anyhoo, I found the statement "If student loans were a business they would be running at a loss"
I meant to add, at that point...
"Well, Don't run it as a business then, Knobface" -
if you were your average nz journalist merc,
you'd just be working on pulling stuff out of your arse - working from memory is a whole step up in sophistication ;-) -
merc, in reply to
Oh I do, I do (pull stuff from...), it's funny though that I sometimes wonder if a little red light on a desk doesn't go off somewhere sometimes...it's such a small place and all. Govt. weld considerable power through such simple things as funding.
-
that's the truth. (the power bit. not sure about the red light)
-
merc, in reply to
...well actually ;-)...if they did they could use it now owing to their newly minted super spy powerz.

Corrected that for ya.

shame the supposed Watchdogs don't have the same powers or inclination to know
-
merc,
The Watchdogs, thank God, http://www.stuff.co.nz/life-style/fashion/blogs/crazy-chic/5916978/Why-I-wore-no-pants-on-national-television
This is what tech is for and thankfully we are a better society for it.
Oh and this watchdog, justly rewarded for service above and beyond the call,

great links, both awesome examples of the integrity of the modern craft.
nice to talk again m -
the sprout, in reply to
nice one rich, can't believe i such a gift!
out of practice lol -
merc,
And to you the sprout, hope all is well, I remember well you and your partner's kindness. Meantime a watchdog does highlight what seems to be a rather nasty and petty cost cutting decision just before the election, http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/5920943/Teacher-changes-make-system-fairer-Tolley
However the headline and the article kind of make things the reverse. -
thanks m, things are well.
i hope you are ok too. it was a hell of a thing. i think about you and d some times and i don't even know you. we were upset for you.
i agree there has been an enormous amount of headline manipulation lately to give the semblance of balance while constantly slanting the coverage, stuff even worse than herald imo.
-
merc,
3 years and things seem to take care of themselves with time.
The slanting is also to be seen on TV, blatantly giving TV3 34 million, or was it 43? leading up to the election cannot be let to pass unnoticed, surely? And TV7, what's that about, why is TV3 too big to fail? -
sometimes time is all there is for such things.
i think Key is aiming for the Berlusconi of the South Pacific thing...
http://thestandard.org.nz/70271/#comment-396527i don't want to derail the discussion on what is a great post, if you are similarly concerned m, feel free to continue conversation on my post
-
the sprout, in reply to
$43 million Key loaned to TV3/Mediaworks from recollection, so they could afford to hire Paul Henry - could just be pulling that out of my arse but.
-
merc,
I think we are on thread, what with media supposed to be the great disseminators and all, this is just awesome in it's skewiness, http://www.nzherald.co.nz/politics/news/article.cfm?c_id=280&objectid=10762741
-
ok good.
yep that's a stunner, and this one...Robyn Malcolm said in her 'vitriolic' attack:
"We have a leader who seems to be more interested in talking about his cats on the radio, being seen at the rugby and getting on the cover of the Woman's Weekly. I thought that was my job"
http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10764316
journalists must be very, very polite and sensitive little dears these days?
-
merc,
Is discussed on another thread, and there is convergence because of the Coney censoring (even another thread), PAS is really the place where media gets a good airing (heh). Robyn Malcolm is brave, the usual vitriol has been activated by the Some People tribe.
Great to see this stuff getting an airing, great to see the message being disseminated. -
the sprout, in reply to
yep, it's good. people here and a few other places get it, but then we ain't most people. it never fails to amaze and dismay me just how naive most NZers are when it comes to the political interests of the msm. we must be one of the most gullible peoples on the globe in that respect :-(
i just hope it's enough in at least the long term, i think the short to mid-term is already soundly screwed.

Yep, our equivalent of Alec Baldwin, for better or worse.
