That's really true, and probably explains why I love The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society, yet get stabby when I hear Yes-like things. Also: do not underestimate the power of three good musical minutes. Get in, get out, don't faff about.
I blame 'A Quick One, While He's Away': the proto- Tommy. (It's conceivable that we could partly blame Paul McCartney, too, with all that music hall vaudevillian stuff. But Paul gets enough blame for things as it is. :) )

It's conceivable that we could partly blame Paul McCartney, too, with all that music hall vaudevillian stuff. But Paul gets enough blame for things as it is. :) )
I've been thinking about all of the people who went into a studio with Paul who are no longer with us. Off the top of my head: John, Linda, George, Billy, Denny, Michael. And he never ages. Could there be some kind of deadly Dorian Grey thing going on here?

Ditto. The thing...well, one of the things...about VGPS is it is like a radio play (albiet a plotless one). Like a good radio play (or maybe a poem) it is 'evocative' in the truest sense of the word - i.e. it evokes images and stories in the listeners mind. The imagination of the audience has a role. It doesn't spell out every damn thing.
It may not be a coincidence that part of the inspiration was a radio adaptation of Dylan Thomas's 'Under Milk Wood'.
Also: do not underestimate the power of three good musical minutes. Get in, get out, don't faff about.

I'm not sure it's even legal these days. When I saw them they had to call themselves Anderson, Wakeman, Bruford and Howe, which is a bit wordy for a referendum bumper sticker.

Ah the albums of my youth...Thick as a Brick, Aqualung, Fragile, Close to the Edge, Meddle. Even went to Wishbone Ash in Wgtn around 75. Then I found Neil Young and that was that. Although the new Decembrists album could almost qualify as prog and I quite like it so maybe things haven't changed as much as I think.
Also, I have listened to Rick Wakeman's concept album about the Six Wives of Henry VIII. Beat *that*.

Well, I have to bow to the superior expertise of a Sunday Sneer-Whines columnist when it comes to "small-minded smugness". Meanwhile, its interesting seeing Barnardo's running the line that its outrageous this amount of money is being "wasted" during a recession. Perhaps we should take this out to the reductio ad absurdum suspend next year's local body elections, shut down the Police and Courts and put Parliament on an unpaid recess until we're back on our feet.
Or someone could put up a bill to repeal the Citizen's Initiated Referenda Act. But what you don't get to do, in my opinion, is pretend that laws only apply when you think its fiscally prudent.

I'd like to see those 77% (or whatever it was) who think it's a waste of money vote "yes" just to piss them off.

Never went for the doodlings of Yes much but a dishevelled Rick Wakeman pops up in a slot on the Arts Channel on Sky quite regularly. I watched one ep last week, which was a long conversation with a British muso (Snowy White) I had never heard of, and it was really interesting.
Any picks for the Film Festival? I have Afghan Star lined up and it looks like I will have to travel up SH1 for more, now that Bill Gosden has done the dirty on us.

Debating with you usually seems pointless, Craig, but I can't ignore your 'sneer'. He's a friend, I value his opinion and I think it's a pretty weak argument in the face of the evidence to describe his work as either small minded or smug.
