Cheers. I get by with the help of my support group.

  • Gregor Ronald,

I was going to point out the Dave Henderson-ZAP link, but I see it's already noted. Amazing how it helps someone like Hendo prosper - as long as he can con Bob Parker into bankrolling his dodgy projects. Or is SmoothBob Tightpants a Zapper as well?

here's another, lighter - and highly amusing take on the same rally as the video you posted Russell.

Most of the audience didn't appear to get the joke, but that's not surprising.

  • Joshua Drummond,

Handy. I only noticed the slip immediately after I'd posted it, of course. Good old PA, not caving in to the edit button Nazis!

Off topic for today's post (but not for PA as a whole). Looks like Tivo doesn't want my money. What an utter disappointment.

TiVo locked to Telecom, pricing announced

Off topic for today's post (but not for PA as a whole). Looks like Tivo doesn't want my money. What an utter disappointment.

The price isn't unexpected, and the box actually does more than Freeview DVRs at about the same price.

But the lock-in to Telecom? Fail.

I find it hard to believe that they couldn't have convinced Vodafone and Orcon to reach a zero-rate deal for the on-demand programming. This is an awful decision.

  • Phil Palmer,

While New Zealand's broadband is generally accepted as being off the pace of the rest of the world, Minicola says TiVo is unaffected by this.

She said that data delivered at a modest speed of 1.5Mbps (megabits per second) it would only take three to five minutes to download the first ten minutes of programming.

1.5Mbps isn't a modest speed on my broadband connection, it would be blazing. I shall wait and see just how happy telecom customers are with their Tivos before I think of joining them. But a most appropriate contribution to a post about crazies, thanks JPH.

I have a deep, deep love for this piece on the rally: White America's Inconvenience Tantrum, Part IV: The 9/12 Project—Building a Bridge to Nowhere with Fractions of Sense. It is long, analytical, righteously peeved, and hilarious. With photos.

    @Nick Kearney:

What country is Trevor Loudon the president of? I've forgotten.

    Oh, and Peterson too.

You'll have to do better than that, Nick. I don't recall the dozens of people Loudon has gone after for their allegedly traitorous pasts being presidents of any countries either.

Some of them -- Joss Debreceny, for example -- have simply been people working respectable jobs who happened to have left-wing opinions as students. Loudon's creepy bullying of them is just cast into relief by his own disturbing past (and for that matter, present) beliefs.

On the other hand, Loudon was elected vice-president of your party, and Peterson was selected to stand for public office.

But while we have you -- is there anyone else in Act whose alarming anti-Semitic beliefs we should know about?

  • JP Hansen,

The price isn't the issue Russell (not that I have the budget to be an early adoptor), but there's no way in hell I'll swap to Telecom for the TIVO service.

Hell, all I'd want via my ISP is the damn EPG, downloadable content isn't that appealing.

The irony is that the guy with the really troubling political past is Loudon himself.

As one whose ideological undies have been sniffed by Louden (whose nose cannot be relied upon to come up with anything much like the truth) I thank you for that Russell.

  • giovanni tiso,

Such a shame translating the craziness of Italian right-wing politicians requires too many explanations... trust me when I say that we're not afraid to be outdone by your Glenn Becks.

(Buses for immigrants only! Local dialects taught at school! Cap on the number of foreigners in our primary school classes! MPs responding to accusations of massive sexual improprieties by threatening to reveal even bigger scandals - by other members of their own party! It really is quite a circus that I'm looking forward to watch live as of next week.)

  • Russell Brown,

Batshit conspiracy types just love Loudon:

Larry Johnson (He's the guy who kept predicting the imminent and devastating Michelle Obama "Whitey" tape, which never existed)

Trevor's tireless work on Obama's communist sleeper-agent secrets is hailed by The Universal Seduction. (Other specialist subjects there: aliens, advanced weaponry, crop circles etc.)

And, of course, there are the Ron Paul disciples.

From the interview on that page:

MR. CHARLTON: What significance do you put on the evidence you have gathered?

MR. LOUDON: That’s for my readers to decide.

MR. CHARLTON: For the record, from your research, can you say if there is any kind of collaboration or alliance between international Communism and Islamic Fundamentalism?

MR. LOUDON: That goes very deep. It is nothing new-the communists have been infiltrating Islam since the twenties, just as they have Christianity in the west and Hinduism and Buddhism in South Asia.

In his mind, the communist grooming of Obama began when the future president was but 10 years old.

This man, let's recall, was elected to senior office in a party represented in the New Zealand parliament.

During the campaign Obama himself traced it back to kindergarten, when he was encouraged to share his toys with the other children.
