Joe Wylie, in reply to
The system was shaken, but nothing was broken.
And the fresh Labour MP who appeared to best exemplify the Semmens no-truck-with-you-elitist-tossers prescription - the one who needed a fire engine to transport his copious no-pooftahs-please man-tackle - is the one who actually got down and jiggy with the Dirty Politics scumbags.

Ah, whatever you say bro, just don't hit me.

It’s just 30,000 more voters for the left wing, (What a horrible term). For the real G>O>P to win .A big tent of politics, of conservative and liberal social views and conservative and liberal economic voices = “The Lefties”
Rodney Hide said this year on Radio of the National Party, “They only exist to keep Labour out”.
What a party. They show no conservative intellectual rigour, they are the party created to stop Labour. The ideas of fresh government are being held back in the interests of wealth protection. Muldoon without a scar.
-
Because National is the party formed out of the Reform/Liberal (United) parties? Sure, that makes historical sense. Although trying to identify which parts of which party remained/remain in the final product 70-80 years on is a bit of a hassle.

Russell Brown, in reply to
From a Whaleoil post to Claire Trevitt publishing it in the Herald took about 4-5 hours.
Arrggh. We’ve been here before and it’s a non-story – unless, of course, we’re going to start scrutinising the travel of government ministers (and their entourages) to National Party fundraisers. Which we’re not.
This is actually quite depressing.

And the unaccountable passive phrasing is deeply familiar. Person X is "defending themself", without the writer acknowledging the accusation's source. When did they stop beating their wife?
Clearly #dirtypolitics has made no impact on the shitty conduct of our political 'journalists', their editors and publishers. What's it going to take when they refuse to be ethical of their own accord?

Jack Harrison, in reply to
Well, if they had won in 2005 they would be pretty much the same faces under Don Brash including Finance Minster Jay Kay and they would have loved it.

You need big backers to be political according to the press..
Labour , how dare you not be funded by millionaires. -

On that note, Frank Macskasy's complaint in August regarding the Donghua Liu affair wasn't upheld. On the bottom it says, "John Roughan took no part in the consideration of this complaint.". Probably conflict of interest abstention.

et tu, Ioannes? ...or just utu?
Labour , how dare you not be funded by millionaires.
Friends, Voters, countrymen, lend me your million ears.
I come to bury Labour, not to praise them.
The evil that men do lives after them;
The good is oft interred with their bones.
So let it be with Labour.(Though I'm guessing John 'Legacy' Key
will be personally hoping for an inverse ending
in the reputational burial stakes...)ps - I was gonna go with the 'A2 Brutus' line
but sensitive types might have thought I was
calling Key a big sheet...
(in Australian obviously!)

The Press Council website seems to be down so you can't get to the link Deep Red posted. However, the Frank Macskasy case made it in to google's cache and the link is here

yes, let's invite those who are happy to behave neither ethically nor professionally to spank themselves. What's that wet bus ticket sound fapping away in the distance?

My concern that the Campaign is compromised by Lusk's involvement is part of the reason I have urged you to consider standing for Mayor
Translation:
Because whilst you may have destroyed any remnants of a career in central government, NZers have shown many times that they are prepared to elect just about any nut in the bag as a mayor. -
The Intercept has now started international fundraising for Nicky's legal costs. International story now.

The work of GBSA is never complete. It’s a twisted cycle.
Graham is not a member of Prinz and is not subject to its code of ethics.
Surprise, surprise.

There's so much spinning going on I'm starting to routinely assume the opposite of what is said in certain circles. -

Starting? Bit slow? ;) What Taslov just linked to, Team talk, Team Key, all much of the same, “jobs for the boys” network is alive and well. Amy Adams is all over Team key and Dirty politics. She is the dark horse who rears it’s ugly head inside Team Key, just enough to go unnoticed but always there. Of course they only employ one of their own. Team talk is a company that will get cream jobs from Team Key. Keeping it in house keeps the ongoing manipulation of information. They are just a bunch of nodding John Keys smiling and waving on the dashboard. All looking to better themselves only.
Team Talk
Team Key
Team bunch of liars
Team bunch of thieves -

Nice imagery, Sofie. Absolutely nothing has changed -- apart from accountability being subbed out to a private company and away from public scrutiny. Moving right along, folks.

Slow and reluctant. Once upon a time everyone knew most politicians lied about election promises but there remained an expectation, a trust that the system of government was itself reasonably honest. Now there is less lying about policy at election time- successful parties simply spring unpopular policy on us once in power, sometimes blaming convenient allies, but they avoid the burden of unwonted policy at election time, and they are better at implementing promised change. However, this political change is now paired with practices which make a mockery of democracy in the daily activity of government: the abuse of the OIA, underfunding of the Ombudsman and HDC, the selectivity of release of research information and report material, the failure to accept responsibility when incorrect or inappropriate action is exposed, the expectation that parliamentary decisions will be routinely made under urgency, and with limited information available to ordinary MPs, the pressure public servants are under if they wish to retain their chosen livelihoods, the removal of people's rights to local representation through Councils and other local bodies, and ownership of the MSM.
Hollow men has become hollow country, the face the UN sees is a mask which those who live here are becoming ever more uncomfortably aware of. The behemoth beneath grows stronger and it believes it knows best. -

It does and it's amongst us every day in every way. We have entire Electorates that are in on the fudge at the request of Team key, and leaders of parties other than Team key, (Dunne Act) that condone the manipulation out in the open. This is the United Future Dunne plays. We are now paying Seymour a higher salary because Team Key wanted a patsy to fob off their undesirable policies on, so they created a new position earning him more tax money. People like John, "I was never part of a plot," Palino,( yeah right) who nearly made it to running the largest city in NZ with Slater in behind. Many of us aren't happy with this Convention centre , now we are gifting the Sky City TVNZ land that will house a Hotel . How come there is no mention that Sky City gets new pokies, a new Hotel and gifted land and we dont seem to be getting the Convention Centre now. How completey fucked did John Key screw us there. He has private dinners or ones that cost $5000 then hey presto! some company gets a deal. We, the tax payer gets screwed . We lose lose lose and he trades trades trades, money money money. It's not his fucking money , it's ours and he knows it.
