nice comment, James.
maybe the best yet, not taking anything away from Mr. Parks, et al.
but, i do not see why Occam's razor would suggest the loaded question is not a deliberate ploy. also, you say "PR masterstroke", i say "Propaganda wins hand down, assisted by tabloidised media".why wasn't it called the "on a hiding to nothing referendum"?
;-)

Stop Press: Man denies sending Sue Bradford death threat
-
Hugs for Sue Bradfrod.

Edit button coming soon?

And more amusingly still, our old friend Redbaiter thinks the death threats against Sue Bradford are a false flag plot by the Far Left.
Use your imagination to complete the following sentence: Old --------s never die, they just deny.

*sigh* Lay out the troll bait, and they will come. With all due disrespect to both The Standard and DPF, perhaps they both need to put down the stones and start cleaning the shit-smeared windows in their own glasshouses.

Aw, fuck it -- remove the "perhaps", please.

Heh, your wonderful KB reputation will be ruined! :>
You're totally right of course - the term "Kiwiblog Right" quite rightly applies to the community that has congealed over there. It might not apply to the owner of the website, but it's fair to attribute a certain flavour of discourse to the hivemind that has sprung up around it. Of course the same applies to the "Standard Left" who attributed unspoken thoughts as well. I can't think of the PA term that should apply here but that would make for a fun competition methinks.

Re the motivations for the wording of the question there are a coupla things to bear in mind
- they started the petition before the law was finalised
- the number of signatures you need to collect to trigger a referendum which is preposterously large. It's likely a sensible, unloaded question will never achieve this.

Like my virginity, that was put out of my misery a looong time ago. :) But seriously, the shit Sue Bradford has been subjected to is (to state the bleeding obvious) totally out of line and sickening enough without being jacked into the latest round of the never-ending KB-Standard pissing match.
To be honest, I think every MP (or more precisely their long-suffering staff) just accept wingnuts as part of the job -- most of their correspondence goes straight in the bin, and only the worse get passed on to Parliamentary Services and/or The Police (who quite sensibly take a default 'first rule of Fight Club' position on this.) Can't say disposing of a faeces-smeared tampon was the highlight of my brief civil service career. :)
At the risk of sounding like a total arse-kisser, I think PAS is a pretty safe and civil corner of teh interwebz because Russell made his expectations crystal clear from the start and enforced them. (That doesn't have to be heavy-handed to be effective.) Don't want to presume to speak for RB here, but I think he's also very sensitive to the fact that it's his name over the door, and if PA degenerates into a free-range troll farm its his reputation -- and ability to earn a living -- that suffers.

Bryan Spondre seems to have us nailed in his latest new blog (this one is run by Cameron Slater):
Thanks for your comments gentlemen. I view blogging as a conversation not the 'word of god' style used by blogs like Public Address.
I really don't know what his beef is, but it isn't the first time he's said this sort of thing. It seems a bit rich for a guy yet to break single figures for comments ...
-
Really dumb question coming up:
Who’s Bryan Spondre?

Trollbadism?

I see that being a brief and unhappy marriage, because I see Spondre getting a whale oily facial the instant he posts something remotely reasonable. Cameron can make the Randi Krishnas at their most sectarian look downright comatose.
-
Trollbadism?
With a soundtrack by the fabulous Scissor Sisters, naturally...

I first encountered Spondre via comments on Lance Wiggs' blog and I can't say I was impressed then, or now.
I think he has a stick up his arse about something, but it's hard to tell exactly what.

Did he just call God a pinko? Fundy's ain't going to like thaaaaat...

The same sort of stick that's been irritating Whale for the last few years, I expect. (Obviously not two ends of the same stick though, normal right-wing people don't do that sort of crap.)

Spondre is something of a serial blogger/poster in the blogosphere. He pops up everywhere.
He's also been banned from a number of blogs, and was recently booted off as a poster on right wing blogsite No Minister
He seems to be adept at making enemies. Although he did recently "out" Redbaiter on Kiwiblog (I can't for some reason find the link - will try later), so give the man some credit.
-
Russell made his expectations crystal clear from the start
Can anyone please link to those. Curious.

If you go back into the dim dark days of November 2006, you will find the launch of PAS.
