Gotta love the demerits being liberally handed out as DPF struggles to control the wild lynch mob.
In the spirit of bipartisanship, The Standard also decided to throw out the troll bait while pretending that they're doing no such thing. And we have a bite...
Who wants to bet that despite modern forensics and the best efforts of our police force and Security Intelligence organisations, the arsonist will never be caught.
(That the culprit is never caught is typical symptom of a right wing provocation, to try and discredit their opponents when all their arguments fail).
I will put up $20
Someone should tell 'Jenny' that the CSI franchise isn't exactly a model of documentary realism.

Wonder what the comments were on those blogs when HC's office was attacked with an axe... maybe that was pre-blogging days. I suspect the comments would have had a somewhat different flavour, or am I being uncharitable?
Regardless, setting fire to someone's office is a pretty dumb way to make a political statement, hardly likely to increase your support base.....
Ok - completely off topic but I just have to share the joy

<quote.Cheers Craig, that actually is quite a humorous thread. </quote>
Agreed. I particularly enjoyed the "Elvis did it" theory and Ryan's "light and loving firebomb, delivered for the purpose of correction" quip.

Damn that shift button!

Still, reading those two comment threads has given me new respect for Barney Frank's determination not to get into arguments with dining room furniture.

Wooly valley episodes-yay
OMG! NZ On Screen, I would like to marry you, in some sort of abstract way.

That was my first thought. They're actually not especially nutty at all. Only one of the "evil lefties were asking for it" ilk. Responses are marginally more typical when Selwyn was jailed, but more about the weirdness of a sedition charge.
It almost looks like there was a time that kiwiblog wasn't "that bad". A brighter, more innocent time...

Yes, it was the time just before PAS came along. But they were still nutty, I recall endless comments to the effect that it was a lamentably failed assassination attempt.
-
I should point out that serious raygun fans can bid on the District 9 BFG on ebay.
Except, sorry, it's ended. You'll have to slake your thirst with locally produced raygun madness by Dr Grordbot instead.

The Righteous Bison Indivisible Particle Smasher looks like a good deal - the only full-sized raygun on offer for under half a grand.
Not metal though, which kind of spoils the fun. Moneyed geeks may prefer the limited edition, made-to-order Ray Blunderbuss which is a metre long and sells for the price of a decent car.

Redbaiter set the tone in today's thread about the electoral office attack by suggesting Key had it coming.
DPF gave him "20 demerit points", which was greeted as an appalling assault on free speech by various other loons, who duly got "demerit points" themselves.
Honestly, if you're reduced to dealing with these people the way one might deal with naughty children, surely the logical thing to do is exclude them from grown-up discussion altogether?

I'm reminded of about 20 years ago when I found myself playing dungeons and dragons with a rather pompous twit as a DM.
Any time the players did something he didn't like or argued with him, he's say "100 D lightning bolt! you're dead!". And then two minutes later the conflict would be resolved, the player's character would be un-deaded, and the game would continue for another 10 minutes before it happened again.
20 demerit points seems like a similarly stupid system.

Ah yes... the people who don't get that the idea of "freedom of speech" doesn't oblige anyone else to give them a platform.

I'm not sure we're compatible, if strange broom-figures from the 80s get your juices flowing :)
OTOH, have been compelled to continue the cringe today as I watched The Marching Girls. Aside from the weird acting; everyone smokes, taxis are Holden HQs, no seatbelts, and marching to heavy metal ... not quite sure what to think!

continue the cringe
Embrace the cringe! BEEEEEEEEE the cringe! :)

<nerd_confession>To be fair, it was suggested in the Dungeon Master's Guide to do that. In the words of Gary Gygax (RIP):
Strong steps short of expulsion can be an extra random monster die, obviously rolled, the attack of an ethereal mummy (which always strikes by surprises, naturally), points of damage from "blue bolts from the heaveans" striking the offender's head, or the permanent loss of a point of charisma (appropriately) from the character belonging to the offender. If these have to be enacted regularly, then they are not effective and stronger measures must be taken. Again, the ultimate answer to such a problem is simply to exclude the disruptive person from further gatherings
-Dungeon Master's Guide P110, "Handling Troublesome Players"
I'm guessing DPF was a long suffering DM. BTW Un-deading? Resurrecting, surely. Although trolls do bear a strong resemblance to the undead.</nerd_confession>
