I didn't really address Dora, did I? But I saw it only a handful of times, although admittedly enough to decide we could try something else. I found its calculated educational content, its domesticated multiculturalism very difficult to stomach. But no doubt if one of the kids had reacted with more enthusiasm it would have become part of our staple - we are aren't yet that authoritarian in our parenting.
(I did however burn that piece of the Thomas train set, believe it or not.)

interestingly Commando and War Picture Library comics seem to be the most regular sales in the Trade Me comics section - while the more regular fanboy fare languishes in the "no bids" limbo...
So plenty of Christians (or insert preferred Deity here......) in those foxholes then...

With Thomas, it's the egregious unitarist indoctrination of juveniles, with their plastic brains and unquestioning acceptance of a omnipotent patriarch that I find disturbing - bet the Fat Controller is pdq to kick any union rep off the island of Sodor. What kind of view of the employer-employee relationship are our children going to grow up with? (ooh, have I got back to religion?)

Thomas the Tank Engine & co always had unscripted bits when read aloud here. When my kids could read them for themselves they'd hunt through the pages, looking for stuff that had mysteriously disappeared. :-)

My three year old studies the Thomas catalogue intensely looking for better track designs. ....and in the ringo versions the Trains give the fat controller considerably timetable grief by organising from time to time.

Totally. But it's not quite as distressing as the blatantly authoritarian Little Golden Book Tootle , which stressed the paramount importance of 'staying on the rails no matter what!'
