Note to the producer's of the breakfast show:
1) if you dont think the 'feedback' is suitable for reading out on air, dont provide it on paper to the presenter, and then tell them in their ear-piece not to read it.
I dont want to excuse that Dick for what he said.... but if you dont want dickish-decisions made on air.... dont provide the dick with the ability to make that decision.
I hope he has to make an on-air apology..... its all the way down there with Holmes' "cheeky little.... " comment.

Helen Clark - brilliant choice. She will be effective. Why doesn't Cullen accompany her? They made a great team; she has a budget and they would both care about the people and projects it will be spent on. Great ideas man.
I’ve watched Helen Clark since she started her Breakfast appearances and Paul Henry, later. Not once did he ever get the better of Helen Clark. For that reason alone he hates her.Paul Henry - didn't he get an award recently? What for, a job well done in bad mouthing Helen Clark and Labour and the new young Labour MPs 2008/2009? I noticed they were interviewed by Alison Mau today. Henry also said he ‘didn't manipulate the viewers only the management’. He does both.
His behaviour worsened steadily nearer to the general elections, his need to ingratiate himself with the National party, of which he failed to become an MP way back.
TVNZ is becoming known for its biased attitude towards anyone remotely socialist and also a safe harbour for Henry’s verbal attacks on women, re the photograph of Oprah Winfrey, and the Greenpeace woman, e.g. Who is powerful enough to keep him there even though the complaints are increasing against him?
Now we have past/his/use/by/date Paul Holmes, denigrating only the left in the first sentences spoken on the new Q /A on Sunday.
The only way to deal with Henry/TVNZ is legally.
I have switched over to Sunrise, full of interesting people; good debates between Trotter and Hooten; Linda Clark on Key, brilliant stuff.
-
The target of Paul Henry's attack was Stephanie Mills, the one who works for NZEI? I filled in my complaint form and thought she might appreciate an email of supportive outrage.
-
I'll tell you what, its made me enjoy brekfast TV all the more !

That revolving door between politics and broadcasting amazes me. Doesn't Leighton Smith still have a morons radio show, even though he's being paid as a cabinet minister.
Assuming that wasn't a clever joke, no.
Lockwood Smith is the cabinet minister, Leighton Smith is the guy with the dittohead radio show.
-
Just about to send in the complaint - need the time of broadcast though...

Lockwood Smith is the Speaker. Nick Smith is the cabinet minister.
=)

Various times between 6:30 am and 9:00 am. Give them the YouTube link, they'll figure it out
-
Give them the YouTube link
It is, after all, TVNZ who edited the thing together and put it on YouTube.
-
losing that particular race to Georgina Beyer.
Oh lord did he? Hilarious and well deserved.
I'll be upfront and say I have found Paul Henry pretty damn funny on Breakfast in the past - if abusively useless on any more serious current affairs piece - but that was petty and ridiculous.
What concerned me was Alison Mau blatantly saying "hey if we put awful crap on air then people watch it and we just want people to watch". Wow, duties of the Fourth Estate huh?
-
apparently, the only duty is to deliver the largest dividend possible to shareholder(s)

Curse all people with confusingly identical surnames. Do they really expect us to pay enough attention to tell them apart?
-
OMG I never realised that. Colour me embarrassed.
(Still, Dead White Males look all the same to me. Even though I am one).
-
Apart from the "dead" part, I hope, Rich ...

Quite possibly because there are a fair few people who watch breakfast television? They want to get the message out, even if it means talking to an idiot.
George: And Barack Obama would reach a huge audience by presenting himself to be ritually shat on by Rush Limbaugh, but I think that's about as likely as Helen Clark accepting an interview request from Ian Wishart.
OK, perhaps I'm being hopelessly naive here, but who really needs who?
And I'm not bothering with the BSA complaint, because if 'being a terminal fuck-wit' was grounds under the relevant legislation I think both TVNZ and Three would spend more time off air than on.
-
But Craig, as Sam said earlier, there are differences: Rush Limbaugh and Ian Wishart are "niche" (euphemism) broadcasters, whereas One News is the news and current affairs arm of the national, state-funded broadcaster. If you can't expect fairness, balance, good taste and decency there, then where?
-
Well qualified then ;)
Kyle: I could see your cheap shot, and raise you Willie Jackson and John Tamihere.

Have you been listening to Bill Hicks, Craig? (NB link definitely NSFW)

Philip: Um... Russell, Damien and I all contribute to a radio show broadcast on a national commercial network. As far as I'm aware, we operate under exactly the same broadcasting standards as apply to Radio New Zealand. Or is there some section of the Broadcasting Act that established a different, lower bar for commercial radio I should start exploiting now?
-

Certainly Tamihere, I don't know Jackson's work well enough to know if it's a decent standard or not.
But yes, gibbering idiot certainly can cross party lines.

I can't be certain , but I suspect that any complaint to the BSA about the balance, good taste or decency of this segment of Breakfast would not be upheld.

That's NZ, the USA has a different system and rules (or lack of). Without listening to much of their stuff, I think the difference between their public broadcasters, and Rush Limbaugh, is that Rush Limbaugh is a scum bag who goes as low as he can, the public broadcaster chooses not to.
-
I suspect that...
why do you suspect that?
is this programme subject to a lower set of standards under the regulations? (versus other news and current affairs/interview programmes. etc.) -

Yes, and I wouldn't get too high and mighty about the moral superiority of state-owned broadcasters. Jonathan Ross ring any bells?
-

Section 1 (good taste and decency) relates to ratings (PG, AO, etc.). You'd have to argue that it was content that was inappropriate for a child to be watching.
There's nothing in the standards that means that good taste and decency actually have to be followed. Which is a good thing, after all, as your good taste and mine are not identical. Eating Media Lunch would never have made it past one program if the law was enforced in the way you're thinking of.
