From the metservice link:
7Am: Feels like 21 °C
1 layer of clothing is recommended to remain comfortable in these conditions. So what happens when it gets to the promised 25 °C?

So what happens when it gets to the promised 25 °C?
That's down from last night's forecast of 27º.
I'm expecting jungle weather this evening.
-
Have an edifying and good sounds filled day, Russell, Graham and David. And behave yourselves!

And behave yourselves!
Awww, mum ...

I'm having clothing issues. Obviously, a frock is out of the question because of all the flashing problems, and I wouldn't wish the sight of me in shorts on anyone, but... to jean or not to jean? Because the jeans are a bit miserable for about three hours from 2-5, but then you're grateful for them in the cooler evening period from 5-11. Ack. Is early misery worth later comfort?
Perhaps I'm overthinking this.

"... for people who don't get Arcade Fire????"
Do not miss the Fire. From all accounts they were the absolute highlight of the UK summer festivals this past 2 years.
Other tip - Operator Please. Very young poppy/punky kids from Brisbane. Saw them supporting the Arctic Monkeys and they were great fun. Shame about their so early scheduling when there's the boredom of the likes of Shihad, Pluto, Brand New, etc clogging the prime slots.
Other than Dizzee the boiler room seems all a bit techno boring. Has grime/dub step not come the way of the aussie organisers yet?
No doubt there will be the endless queueing as usual which the organisers in pursuit of profit will have done nothing about. But heh, despite my usual BDO gripes I know I'll have a blinding time and hope you all do as well.

Just popped in to Barkers to get a new pair of cargo shorts. Loadsa pockets, you see.
The mall was full of young punters. And hi to the PA reader I chatted to in the Foodtown queue.

Heh, I had this year's BDO down as a bit of a no-show but that's not a bad list you've got there at all.
1. Dr Octagon - Dr. Octagonecologyst is a stone cold classic of warped hiphop. 'I'm Dangerous' still gets regular airplay in our house. Not sure how he'll go in concert but Kool Keith is a rap legend and has the CV to prove it.
2. Lady Saw - Fabulous, rude as you like whine and grine from the scary Lady in charge.
3. Bjork - Potential to be fabulous, or disappear up it's own bum. I suspect she'll be good.
4. Arcade Fire - Completely agree, don't get it.
5. LCD Soundsystem - Yeh, the only one of the big names that really appealed to me. I like all the remix action they get involved in. Must've heard at least 5-6 different remixes of 'Daft Punk...'
6. The Clean - Should be great fun.
Have a great time you lot. I'll be working on staff appraisals so don't worry about me, there's nothing quite so exciting as staff appraisals...

This New Yorker review of Spoon made me curious. Are they worth a look-in?
-
Tips for transport for those of us with a job what won't be able to get away until 5ish? I'm presuming train = best, guess I'm facing a long "commute" at that time of day regardless though huh...
-
Spoon IMHO on album are really good - quirky (not cutesy) indie pop
depending on crowd Lady Saw over Arcade Fire... tis going to be hard moving around today I reckon
I predict rain and I am blaming Rage Against The Machine as it pissed down last time they were here... watching the crowd for them from the immortals lounge should be a sight to remember
Wish Bjork was in the boiler room or at least not sandwiched between Shihad and Rage, who wants to be stuck in that crowd then? Not me
going to be a fun day

That wasn't Rage's fault, that was Elastica. I was in the stand when they started playing that song with the great guitar at the beginning. There were thousands of people and all of a sudden they all surged forward and started bouncing in unison in front of the stage. Best reaction from the crowd all day, they had everyone hooked from then on.
And the heavens opened, and everyone picked up those blue mats that they'd put down on the grass, and used them as rain shelters. And did running leaps and slid around on them, wrecking large patches of paddock.

Is that the one that sounds like a Wire number? :)

Connection is the name of the song. Guitar/synth it is.
Never having heard the Wire, I couldn't say, but that's what the Wire claimed. There was an out-of-court settlement not involving money, so I suspect it does somewhat sound like a Wire number.

Connection is the name of the song.
Have a listen to this remix - up until the obviously clubby bits that's basically the original of Wire's "Three Girl Rhumba" - and try to stop yourself thinking that somehow the vital connection is made.
I think I remember hearing that when Elastica played at Glastonbury around the time of the settlement (or perhaps before it) they announced every song with "this is a cover of a Wire track".
-
Yup, that's pretty similar guitar at least.
Though having listened to 30 seconds of the Wire version... Elastica made it much better for me.

If anyone's tragic enough to be reading about the BDO online, the Stuff blog is much, much better than the Herald one. Are there others going in real time? The Herald one is mostly the blonde at the bar complaining about how hot it is. The Stuff one seems to be about the actual music. How novel.
-
Strange indeed to think that there are people out there who don't 'get' Arcade Fire'
You'd have to have a heart of stone or be too cool for school surely not be seduced by passion like this.
Have front row seats at the Enmore Tuesday night and am jumping out of my skin with anticipation......

Congratulations Grasshopper. You have done well. But to reach the next level you must master this:

Afterwhich you must then also master this

I always thought everything about Elastica apart from their musical influences was completely appalling. They sure could nick a good tune though.

Apart from the young whippersnapper on the Stuff blog going on about Kool Keith "Whoever he is..."
Aaaargh!

Well! Took a rather circuitous route home (taxi drivers, I feel, should know how to get to major arterials like Mt Eden Road from Mt Smart. But perhaps that's just me). I'd like to note several things: oh my god LCD Soundsystem ruled - I could have listened to them for hours and hours, bopping around like an idiot; Bjork is a wondrous magical creature - that's seriously the most avant-garde thing anyone's ever likely to see at a stadium show, ever; Spoon were on the wrong stage; Arcade Fire did their best to battle against bad sound and slight indifference from the crowd (at least where I was standing); I loved how massive Dizzee Rascal was with the punters - I leapt about like a bit of a mad person in the tent when he was on, when I could eventually get in there; also really loved Dr Octagon/Kool Keith, who kicked my day off with a bang; managed to squeeze in Paul Kelly's 'To Her Door', which is one of my fave songs ever, and The Clean's 'Fish' (ditto). So it seems that the Boiler Room was the winner on the day, which hardly ever happens to me.
I think this might have been the most consistently fun/no-boring-bits BDO I've ever been to. Yay.

Especially seeing as it's just a matter of pointing the car in the right direction and driving ...

Didn't they just. That was really, really exciting.
Bjork is a wondrous magical creature - that's seriously the most avant-garde thing anyone's ever likely to see at a stadium show, ever
Yes, even if I did wish she'd played more of a pop show, it was remarkable art.
Spoon were on the wrong stage; Arcade Fire did their best to battle against bad sound and slight indifference from the crowd (at least where I was standing);
We were up at Lilyworld for the slightly delayed performance by Lady Saw and entourage. I felt like we hadn't really had a hit so far, but she was brilliant, and the atmosphere was happy and relaxed. And anyone who can get the crowd rocking to a song about her own infertility has my respect.
Then Shihad played what I think might have been their best BDO show ever. They were majestic.
I loved how massive Dizzee Rascal was with the punters - I leapt about like a bit of a mad person in the tent when he was on, when I could eventually get in there
It was so hot in there. Dizzee was great but, with no international acts on in the stadium at the time and 27º temperatures outside, the crowd and heat was a show-stopper for me. (We were already in the middle of the tent for the end of Havoc's set and it packed in around us very quickly and heated up alarmingly as Dizzee took the stage.) We went over to Billy Bragg, who was a bit lacking.
also really loved Dr Octagon/Kool Keith, who kicked my day off with a bang; managed to squeeze in Paul Kelly's 'To Her Door', which is one of my fave songs ever, and The Clean's 'Fish' (ditto). So it seems that the Boiler Room was the winner on the day, which hardly ever happens to me.
I was a bit disappointed in Dr Octagon after a fine start when he dropped the Incredible Bongo Band's 'Apache'. And the Clean's organic rock was a perfect follow-up to LCD (in fact, the two aren't entirely dissimilar). Carl Cox was a bit doofy but kind of fun. My crew went home very happy.
