Funnily enough was listening to Dangerous Game on youtube the other day.....it's a song that really resonated with a much younger me, possibly around 15 or so, and may even have incited (or contribute to) an interest in dub. Great drumming too.

Thanks for the Diatribe bio Russell, some great memories there.

Sadly their drummer, Chris Whyte, passed away last week. Chris was a dear friend, and I have much to be grateful to him for, expanding my horizons and introducing me to a whole mess of different and new (to me) music. Never one to seek attention, he was, as you say, integral to Diatribe's sound.

I enjoyed the history within Duncan Campbell's obit and if I recall right links to the Sunday jazz show had been posted up here before (upon listening to the linked episode I was struck by the back to back heaviness of the tunes featured, I think it was an African special ..) ... if anyone comes across any links to Duncan's reggae show from the 80s please post them up ...

And good news re: Ode, Viking and Flying Nun. I was reminded of this old blogpost on the best of Ode's catalogue. Most of these are impossible to find, so it would be good if some say the light of day again:

Wow, that's fascinating! The 1860 Band track is on Heed the Call, and the title track of that compilation is noted too, but there's clearly more to explore.

Especially in later years, many Ode releases were just shovelled out with little or no promotion. A compilation along these lines with some proper marketing would be great.

All this, of course, is not to underrate the important fact that the Turnbull is a research library.
