Is Flat3 hosted anywhere more accessible this side of the Great Firewall than Youtube? Please? Because:

The obvious reaction is to look at a show with an ethnic Chinese director and three young Chinese leads and assume it's, well, Chinese comedy. But it's really more contemporary Kiwi comedy. They're us, remember?

It’s interesting that Roseanne isn’t desperate to do that – maybe they’ll keep it as a webseries, given the international potential for it. She has a few other ideas in the bag, I think. Talented woman.

I am always really sceptical of NZ comedy shows, for good reason, but really enjoyed Flat3! Very nicely executed by young, talented crew. Interesting being an old git too and finding that I could watch it on my nice big telly using my adorable new Apple TV - it is a very cool device.

I'm like Jolisa - I watched the whole 6 eps this morning from start to finish. Thanks for the recommendation - I've shared the love.

Watching more last night, I reckon that's a good move 'cos it works better on the web.
There's some serious acting talent and decent production values. But there's also a little bit of a ramshackle home-movie aren't-we-having-fun quality that works well online but might not quite work on commercial TV.

Seemed quite definite she would rather chase a global web audience of millions than a local TV one. A generatonal difference in ambition, perhaps?

Possibly, though even old folks see the power of youtube…
What’s not so apparent is the ability to fund production via youtube partnerships/ad revenues. Sponsorship could work, but we’re all a little wary of that.

Also: comedy designed for the web doesn't have to be a poor relation to television. Look at what Felicia Day has done with The Guild. The "homemade" feel is part of its success I think. And the early release of new episodes to subscribers creates a revenue stream that doesn't exclude new or casual viewers.

No. Hope I didn't imply that!
Web delivery is incredibly liberating. There's no BSA for a start :)
More importantly, durations are far more flexible and there are no execs wanting this toned down or that hyped up, or saying "we love this, just a few tiny changes..."
And it's the future... people watch it whenever, and it can be available forever.
Just revenue is the big question-mark.
