/What on earth possesses Key
Good question.Could be below the earth, just sayin'.

Goff going to the media with details of the report before it is released is stupid, to deny he has done so further compromises the opposition stance critcally letting Key off. If "this" is done with Little's knowledge/blessing then it is doubly stupid.
Even though Key came across in the house as a total prick, Little's perforamnce in the house could be better - Labour has to take the Key Govt to task more on how they are failing against the frame work of what they should be doing. Little has to avoid being Mr Shouty.

Oh for goodness sake. I tell you what, let’s make Jesus leader of the Labour party because it seems that is what it will take to please some people.
Little’s performance in the house yesterday was the best we’ve seen from an opposition politician in over six years and the best from a Labour leader since forever. I found myself clapping my hands in glee, we are finally giving it back to those arrogant and pompous pricks on the government benches.

"Tucker claims he did not know who Slater – Whale Oil – was. Which is incredible in itself for the country’s chief spy, but compounded by the fact he didn’t apparently bother to find out before releasing briefing material, the type of which had never been publicly released before to anyone, even accredited journalists. Perhaps it was Slater’s cheeky smile and gentle wit that won him over."
Ah that cheeky smile and gentle wit. I’d roflnui if someone was actually being held accountable for this, but currently they’re not.

Labour screws up again, conspiring to kill Slater when everybody can tell at a glance he is one of the undead.
Oh great, zombie vampire Slater will be shuffling though our lives for generations to come, can Labour get nothing right? time to retrive that wooden stake from Muldoon and put it to good use

Yes, this is a very good distraction from the Countering Terrorists Bill and its associated setting aside of basic rights.
Some of the wording is of real concern....and it makes me wonder just how well equipped our cloak and dagger brigade are to excercise their new powers...should they need to.
Perhaps Our Leader has got outside assistance lined up aready?
This whole thing is getting a Sleeping Dogs feel about it.
(I would post a tune....but sadly the soundtrack is unavailable.)

Agreed! During the Labour leadership campaign I posted that they needed someone intelligent and articulate with a sense of humour. Somebody who could counter Key's oily glibness. I was afraid that Little wasn't that person, but I've been forced to eat my words.
Little's performance over the last few days has been nothing short of stunning. At last, Labour has a leader they can be proud of.

I particularly liked his line, "cut the crap" - given I'd said it so many times over and over to myself when Key opens his mouth :-).

How about the graffiti that Smith discovers when he's dumped in a solitary confinement cell:

That text transcript had the awkward, plonky feel of something that was scripted to be seen - but I can't see what the point would be. You know, kind of - " I am stressing a point here in a slightly un-natural way. This just goes to show what low lives those dastardly Labour beasts are. If only people knew."

Danyl explains about Josh Forman and W/O - this is all getting very weird.

Oops - I see Russell already posted this. But it is still very weird. Where will it all lead?

Anyway, to be serious for a second Slater’s paranoid delusions – thinking people are conspiring to kill you is usually the preserve of inmates of the secure wing of the Mason Clinic – is the stuff of mass shooters.
Stan Graham developed a increasingly paranoid persecution complex that his neighbours were poisoning his cows, when in fact his milking sheds were insanitary. The moment he started going bankrupt was the moment he started taking pot shots at the police.

Christmas, and the summer memory hole. That's what Key is playing for, anyway. It usually works.
Longer-term, I doubt that he will be looking for a fourth term - which is not to say that National won't win one.

I too checked out the "slightly left of centre" blog after hearing Tau Henare championing it on The Panel and thinking "what's all this then?". I found it to be confusing yet boring at the same time. Admittedly I am lefter than most in my beliefs but I couldn't see anything left about it all, and it certainly didn't entice me to attempt a repeat visit. Has Tau been played or is he involved in helping set this up? How did he suddenly come across this 'sensible new breath of fresh air from the left' (I'm paraphrasing can't remember his exact words).
Most disturbing, yet kind of lame that whomever actually made the blog thought people would suddenly decide to tone down their lefty rabble rousing and be influenced by an 'I'm right but I'm calling myself left because I'm tricky like that' blog.
-
'slightlyleftofcentre' has gone private. Or maybe I have a suspicious IP?!

It could be that that is actually his opinion (hard to fathom though it may seem to any who actually are left wing). But Slater touted the guy for a while didn't he?

Extraordinary how not one cheer-leader on this site, in their collective praise for Andrew Little's performance over recent days, has made the slightest reference to that political misfit, David Cunliffe.
Before the election, he was heralded by the same contributors as the man/the orator/the gifted politician who was about to relegate Key to an also-ran.
Now that Cunliffe and his leadership hopes have been so discredited and he's now wallowing in backbench oblivion, his once lemming-like followers now don't consider him worthy of any reference at all or a fond farewell.
I suspect this time in three year's time, Andrew Little will be the recipient of the same fickle treatment. -
Hmm couldn't resist googling - apologies for the long link to a right wing blog site but there's info about the connection between whaleoil and slightlybereftofcredibility whoops slightlyleftofcentre (which now has password-only access).
This Alf chap has kindly copied and pasted what appears to be an entire blog post from Josh Forman and it makes for some unpalatable reading. (Apologies in advance for probably providing this Alf guy with more hits in a day then he has received all year on his blogsite.

Succeed in politics and you have many enthusiastic fathers crowding about. Fail and you are that sad, forgotten orphan sitting on the step outside in the rain.
Besides, the failure of Cunliffe was an error in judgment, not in intent. We still have just one intent, and we’ve got a shiny new cannon.

If you’re Kim Dotcom Fairfax will relegate you to, um, Digital Living, in the Technology section.

Yes there was a link between JF and Slater but the waters are very muddy. Real question - is this blogger spelled Forman or Foreman? Seems commentators who are promoting him are using Forman or Foreman.
In the quoted email which apparently was sent directly to Cam Slater from Josh Forman/Foreman and is copied and pasted direct from whaleoil's blog onto Pete George's blog (link below) he is signing himself Foreman. Thank goodness google took me to the re-paste because I couldn't bring myself to look at whaleoil directly even for the purposes of unravelling an enigma. Am I reading too much into this ambiguity? Does it matter if he is Foreman or Forman? Why do I care? I think because it distresses me to think that this new 'lefty' blog is the latest modus operandi for the dirty politics crew.

There have been a revolving door of Jesus’s over the last two years – each one of them crucified by the party that lost touch with the electorate.
Labour could not win an election set against the revelations of Dirty Politics – largely because they could not present as a cohesive govt.
That Key made a mistake and admitted it is not the issue upon which to focus.
I stand by what I said earlier – Labour need to do better. Goff may have undermined any perceived advantage – presently both Lab & Nats are crapping into the fan. We will see what happens next week.
