Broods have a new single out today. It's called "Free" and the while the video isn't out yet (but will be soon), the song is on all the usual digital platforms.

It's fabulous pop, and if anyone can break the NZ music drought in the top 40, it's Broods.

I listened to the Jackson Browne interview on Kim Hill last week and it seems like “These Days” was written by him (when he was 16) but first recorded and made famous by Nico. I may have that wrong.

During the interview towards the end they played a live version including an intro which may be of interest to those who love that song.

Initially, the droplet of alcohol-water solution creates a complex mixing flow. Ethanol evaporates first, due to the lower vapor pressure compared to water and, once the ethanol vanishes, a radial pattern can be observed. Further, as the initial ethanol concentration increases, the mobility of the receding contact line is increased as well. And, at high ethanol concentrations, the contact line recedes and draws groups of particles along with it that are then deposited in a ring-shaped pattern.

It was in the hard copy Sunday today also - at least they got Randle McMurphy spelled correctly in the print edition.

I'm guessing it wasn't in the Fairfax Events promotions portfolio - a shot across the bows to other promoters perhaps?

There was recently a bit of a chat about The Walking Dead... last night's season finale Last Day on Earth, with the introduction of Negan, was one of the most gripping, tense and scary finales to anything anywhere that I've seen for a very, very long time.

I was 'warned' some time ago about Negan by a friend who has never seen the series but is way ahead in the comics. In the episodes preceding there''s been mention of Negan here and there (kind of like Kirk Douglas and 'I'm Spartacus...we're all Spartacus'.)

But last last night's last half hour or so blew me away. I felt pretty shook up at the end of it. Am I alone in feeling like this?

Hah, I literally gave away my Yamaha mini-system - purchased in London in 1998 - last week. The only thing wrong with it was the lack of modern connectivity, and the 3 disk CD changer being a bit temperamental.

I went the full-blown 5.1 audio receiver route - no TV, but I have a projector now. Another Yamaha, and pretty compact as far as modern receivers go. Sounds great with QAcoustic speakers.

Ours was actually a micro home theatre system and took CDs in a DVD drive that was achingly slow to scan and start playing. It had an old 30-pin iDevice dock but, of course, no HDMI.
