In theory she could do both, but I’d be surprised if there weren’t duties for nominees – let alone artists who perform at the awards, which isn’t unlikely in her case – in the days before. Officially, she’s still playing the show, but officially she’s not yet a nominee. I would certainly expect an amicable resolution if she can’t do Laneway.
Sure, because I'm pretty sure Lorde (and her management) are sensible enough to know being a diva -- and you know, blowing contracted gigs -- isn't really how her brand works. At least, I hope it doesn't. :)

So this time, there will be a compulsory pre-purchase $50 pass per car, with the $50 refunded on arrival if the car contains three or more people.
Gah. I didn't see any mention of this when I bought tickets in April.

Star eats tourist!
Could be tomorrow’s headline -
It’s not looking good for Comet Ison…Comet ISON is making its closest approach to the sun, and evidence is mounting that the nucleus of the comet has disintegrated. Watch the head of the comet fade dramatically as it approaches the sun in this SOHO coronagraph movie:

It would be a really tough call for camp Lorde - Grammys is a big deal in their most important market (a shedload of free marketing), a performance or award would really cement her as this years Biggest Deal for those who've not already reached this forgone conclusion! Laneway on the other hand... is possibly a low paying (by their now standards) gig given they no doubt signed the deal prior to her blowing up - businesswise one would pick the Grammys without a second thought.... but one also doesn't want to let down the hometeam - massive dilemmas, for the management team and Ella herself
I've tried hard to stop listening to Lorde remixes and mashups... it became a little of an obsession... but this one is perhaps the best one I've heard/grabbed, Lorde and Donna Summer - so understated, so not doing anything... so freaking awesome:

Really feel for the BDO (NZ) team over Blur - can't say I care the bands not coming but the publicity sure ain't going to help
Tune of the week for me; George Michael's Outside as reedited by Sis - TUNE!

The ORB! and DJ Shadow! and I must say I'm very excited about The Dastardly Bounder being on the line up.
ahem... -
OMG Lorde and Donna Summer, thank you sir.
-
Did someone say mashup?
Oh good, I'll drop this:
-
just as a public service, Southbound Records are doing tickets for Lee Fields for $32 - I saw him in London and gotta say as a sweaty soul revue style thang, he's hard to beat.
and as a personal celebration - finally scored Cliff Richard's Green Light album what I've been fiending for for yonks. in Groovy's $2 bin and everything.
yeah yeah it's Cliff and everything, but this is a pretty cool slice of summertime, yacht rocky vibes...

Just to note I’ve fixed the incorrect date for Laneway 2014 – it’s actually January 27. I’ve been out giving a little talk and I can’t edit posts on my phone. Gah.

That raze track is/was magic used to have two copies of the 12' and drop an ever so slightly off sync double track in the middle and then roll it back in #thosewerethedays

All fair points, well made Bob. But I'm in Team Russell -- she looks like she's got her head on straight, and is surrounded by good people, so I'm sure however it shakes out it will be done amicably and sans diva-tude. :)

I agree with you both on that count - Lorde and her management have shown some serious good smarts and down to earth openness and honesty - I'd imagine Ella really wants to play to her friends here and Laneway is the perfect place to so, as a punter I really want to see her play there... and think the grammys are pretty meh at the best of times

... profile of the band for which he is best-known: Trinity Roots. There's some lovely stuff there, too: photos and clips of an unplugged performance of 'Little Things' and a lovely pre-show warm-up session from 2011.
This reminds me of seeing Trinity Roots in the early 2000s at Jubilee Park in Richmond as part of a council summer festival. Grant Smithies was playing a warm up DJ set when they arrived and started setting up gear. Warren Maxwell did a little tuning on his guitar then plugged in. Smithies was playing some big extended Gil Scott Heron soul/funk mix as Warren just started quietly strumming along, slowly but surely adding melody and then building it up into an absolutely gorgeous full on workout. All off the cuff and absolutely magical. Grant had a big shit eating grin on his face so was obviously pretty chuffed.
Just a shame it was in the days before smartphones made it easy to record these things.

My expectation is that she'll be at the Grammys -- it's just too big to miss -- and that the Laneway promoters will get a make-good gig. She could even curate her own support acts. The alternative would be her playing no NZ shows this summer, which I don't think anyone wants.

also: RIP Lewis Collins.
he inspired a great many forward rolls and a longterm yearning for a white Capri 2800.

Kind of in memory, I found this and will watch it later.

Not exactly a mashup but The Orb's version of Hotel California:

Re. the conflict of interestings, maybe Lorde could phone it in - by way of live feed to a not-particularly-big screen?
Also: I enjoyed this tear it down and put it back together acapella.

James Murphy should be the next Doctor. That remix adds several other dimensions to a very solid base. Rightly, I’m hearing it on the b every day.
This isn’t new, it’s been floating around for a few months now, but goodness this is goodness:
https://soundcloud.com/disclosuremusic/help-me-lose-my-mindIt’s going to be a good summer. And Lorde should play the Grammys.
